Marleen Olive will Demonstrate Mono Printing at Meeting
At this month’s meeting on April 11th Marleen Olive
will demonstrate mono printing using watercolor
and acrylic paint on Akus and gelatin printing plates.
She will be doing direct printing on the plates, using
found and made objects. She will also share how to
make your own gelatin plate.
Marleen majored in art in college but says she really
didn’t do much with her degree until 1980 when she
took a series of workshops with well known artists
in watercolor, acrylics, pastels, and mixed media.
From there Marleen started teaching art at local art associations and at the
Southwestern Community College in Brookings, OR until her move to West
Point in 1999. She has continued to teach art classes, including watercolor clas-
ses currently at the Upcountry Community Center in Pine Grove. Contact
Marleen at [email protected] for more information.
Spring has sprung, although you wouldn’t know it with the
weather that we’ve had. It is time to start thinking about what
shows you want to participate in, what you will be entering in
the Amador County Fair in July, and joining the Open Studio
Show in September. Yes, that all seems far away, but it will be
here before you know it, so get those art materials out and
start building that inventory! Please also consider helping out
your Art Association that brings these things to you by volun-
teering to be on a committee or signing up for duties during
the events. We are also still in need of a publicity person, which would be a great opportunity for you to
learn how to market yourself too. We have some great demonstrations lined up for our meetings, so I
hope we will see you there! -Cynthia Dunn-Selph, Treasurer
