It's April, the time of rebirth and renewal. What a wonderful gift we get, the promise of a new life or rather a renewed commitment with a lighter but stronger heart. Masonically, we are always seeking the symbolic to explain more deeply the spirit to which moves us to be better men far more than words could possibly do. In some tradition this is the month representing the fulfillment of Gods promise through the freedom of his people or the promised resurrection to a new stronger life. For still other traditions, it is the promise of greater fecundity for every aspect of their lives; from the livestock and fields to the birth and health of their children and prosperity of their mere thoughts. Whatever the tradition, a select group of Men ensure that those ideas find expression on Earth. We my brothers are those men. We honor Truth and Goodness and we see that through our actions they are realized not just spoken. Our Order has existed from time and memorial to make manifest the God given Freedom of every human being. At this time when the Great Architect of the Universe shows us through Mother Nature the Circle of Life, let us renew our own faith, and the obligations we have taken as Masons. Scott D. Keiser W.M.

Dear Brothers,
Have you ever wondered,
Where does the Senior Deacon stand during Balloting?
Answer: According to MW. James Kelly PGM the present
Grand Lecturer of the Grand Lodge of Nevada, “The Senior
Deacon is to position his self arms length north of the
western edge of the alter facing East”.
What duty does the Senior Deacon perform where he
does not carry his staff?
Answer: During the Balloting procedure weather he is carrying a single ballot
box around the lodge or standing next to the ballot box on the alter he does
not carry his staff, this is also according to The Grand Lecturer.
At the start of the ballot during the last Stated Meeting the Senior Deacon was
positioned in this spot, pursuant to the discussion we had with the Grand
Lecturer on the previous night. By the time the Ballot was over, the Senior
Deacon was west of the center of the alter and had his staff in his hand, he
having been assisted in his positioning by multiple Brothers of various station
in both our Lodge and the Grand Lodge.
Many of us have sat on the sidelines for years saying, “We didn’t do it that way
my year”, that includes me and your right we didn’t. The DGL manual changes
from time to time, please check the Grand Lodge Web site for the most up to
date version (http://nvmasons.org/files/) or just join us at practice. Your
presence at our practices is always welcome and will not only provide
enlightenment to the attendee’s but will show the Officers of the Lodge your
support.
There is also a Grand Lodge workshop scheduled for May, but the details
have not been announces as of yet.
The "NEW" DGL manual, revised as approved at the 145th Annual
Communication, November 2009, is the only "Official" version of this book - if
you have an older book, it's out of date and should be replaced.
Fraternally Yours
W. Jeff Byrne Pm.

I would like to thank all of my brothers that attended the funeral Service for Illustrious Harold Casey Doss. It was an honor to do the sprig of Acacia. While we deplore the loss of our beloved Brother, we pay this Fraternal tribute to his memory. He will be missed by all. Rest in peace my Brother.
My brothers, we will be having an Outdoor Degree on April 28. Brother Michael Griffin will be getting his third degree at this time. Brother Michael helps me do the food every week for the Lodge. It would be nice if we had many brothers to see him through his degree. If you have never had the privilege of attending an Outdoor Degree, it is quite an experience. Remember to bring your hats and boots.
It is April and it is time for the Ancient and Ac-cepted Scottish Rite to have their Reunion. Any brother wishing to become 32
nd Degree
Mason, this is the time to do it. You can con-tact me for the petition; I will have them with me. Also, all 32
nd Degree Masons that would
like to become a Knight of St. Andrew; I will have that petition also.
Happy Easter to all!!!
Fraternally Harold Junior Warden
Junior Warden Harold Scalzo, Jr.

Rudyard Kipling a Knight of the British Realm By Travis Lindsey
From time to time in casual conversation, some of our most esteemed lodge brothers would share small bits of history and wisdoms from a certain Mason. This brother was an author of writings which inspire and amuse. These discussions were taken as advice to inform others. It was uncomplicated to find an enormous amount of information on which to report. In fact it would be more difficult to overlook the works of this fellow than to find them.
Kipling was a prolific writer of poems and books and lived, 30
December 1865 to 18 January 1936. His works are so extensive they are still being mined for their entertainment value. Most of us know about his writing from recent movies, like, “the Man who would be King” or the “Jungle Book” series. Born in India of British parents, Kipling grew up in a period of time when the British Empire was at its peak. He spent time in many countries in his lifetime. Kipling’s father was a Freemason, an artist, and the Curator of the Lahore Museum. A native to Bombay India, young Rudyard became a Freemason and Lodge Secretary of the Lodge of Hope and Perseverance, No. 782 in Lahore India. It was 1885 and Kipling was an assistant editor of the local newspaper, making him well suited for the task of lodge secretary. This office became a source of ignition for Kipling’s career, a coincidental occurrence where a young man of twenty with a thirst for writing and a love for Masonry combined in a formula which exploded into literary treasure which blessed all mankind and embraced Masonry in ways we will long appreciate. He studied in Devon England, married Alice and had a son named John. They lived in many countries including America. Sometime after his return to England, Kipling’s son John entered service in WWI, joining the Irish Guard and subsequently died in battle.
Rudyard’s younger years were spent in Lahore India, but he liked to
travel. He found himself in America where he would choose to live in
Vermont.
9
On Kipling Road “The Nau-lakha”, Dunnerston Ver-mont While living in Vermont, he wrote many stories includ-ing the “Jungle Book”. He returned later to live out his life in England and India, but in his old age he re-turned again to America where this time he con-tracted pneumonia and passed on to that eternal
house not made with hands. Kipling loved his Masonic (lodge) brothers as is evidenced by the following poem.
The Mother Lodge (The Master’s Lodge) There was Rundle, Station Master,
An' Beazeley of the Rail, (An’- and)
An' 'Ackman, Commissariat,
An' Donkin' o' the Jail;
An' Blake, Conductor-Sargent,
Our Master twice was 'e,
With 'im that kept the Europe-shop,
Old Framjee Eduljee.
Outside -- "Sergeant! Sir! Salute! Salaam!"
Inside -- "Brother", an' it doesn't do no 'arm.
We met upon the Level an' we parted on the Square,
An' I was Junior Deacon in my Mother-Lodge out there!
We'd Bola Nath, Accountant, (We’d- we had)
An' Saul the Aden Jew,
An' Din Mohammed, draughtsman
Of the Survey Office too;
10
There was Babu Chuckerbutty, An' Amir Singh the Sikh, An' Castro from the fittin'-sheds, The Roman Catholick! We 'adn't good regalia, An' our Lodge was old an' bare, But we knew the Ancient Landmarks, An' we kep' 'em to a hair; An' lookin' on it backwards It often strikes me thus, There ain't such things as infidels, Excep', per'aps, it's us. For monthly, after Labour, We'd all sit down and smoke (We dursn't give no banquits, Lest a Brother's caste were broke), An' man on man got talkin' Religion an' the rest, An' every man comparin' Of the God 'e knew the best. So man on man got talkin', An' not a Brother stirred Till mornin' waked the parrots An' that dam' brain-fever-bird; We'd say 'twas 'ighly curious, An' we'd all ride 'ome to bed, With Mo'ammed, God, an' Shiva Changin' pickets in our 'ead. Full oft on Guv'ment service This rovin' foot 'ath pressed,
An' bore fraternal greetin's To the Lodges east an' west, Accordin' as commanded From Kohat to Singapore, But I wish that I might see them In my Mother-Lodge once more! I wish that I might see them,
My Brethren black an' brown,
With the trichies smellin' pleasant
An' the hog-darn passin' down;
An' the old khansamah snorin'
On the bottle-khana floor,
Like a Master in good standing
With my Mother-Lodge once
more!
Outside -- "Sergeant! Sir! Salute!
Salaam!"
Inside -- "Brother", an' it doesn't
do no 'arm.
We met upon the Level an' we
parted on the Square,
An' I was Junior Deacon in my
Mother-Lodge out there!
-THE END-
11
In an interview, brother Rudyard once explained, "I was Secretary for some years of the Lodge . . . , which included Brethren of at least four creeds. I was entered by a member from Brahmo Somaj, a Hindu, passed by a Mohammedan, and raised by an Englishman. Our Tyler was an Indian Jew." Kipling was also a Mark Master Mason and Royal Ark Mariner. In later years while working for a military journal Kipling wrote for the troops.
The following poem was written for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897, as a warning to all in the British Empire who would be belligerent and boastful of their success, that they might be considered vain before GOD and fall the way other Empires had in the past. There is no doubt when read through the eyes of another Master Mason of the lessons he was alluding to.
Recessional
God of our fathers, known of old—
Lord of our far-flung battle line—
Beneath whose awful hand we hold
Dominion over palm and pine—
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
The tumult and the shouting dies—
The Captains and the Kings depart—
Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
Far-called our navies melt away—
On dune and headland sinks the fire—
Lo, all our pomp of yesterday
Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!
Judge of the Nations, spare us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
If, drunk with sight of power, we loose
Wild tongues that have not Thee in
awe—
Such boastings as the Gentiles use,
Or lesser breeds without the Law—
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
For heathen heart that puts her trust
In reeking tube and iron shard—
All valiant dust that builds on dust,
And guarding calls not Thee to guard.
For frantic boast and foolish word,
Thy Mercy on Thy People, Lord!
Amen.

The known works include over 100 books including historical and
fictional stories. He wrote over 300 (known) poems. The list of
these titles would be included here if it were not four pages of text.
Our brother Rudyard stands upright as an ensign to all Masons and all nations. His wisdom is forever embodied in the stories he told, the lessons he taught and the good memories of which he reminded us. “So shall We my brothers”
