2018 was an important year for NHP and our community. After many years of planning, TheCommunity Gardens senior housing community was completed, and Springfield’s first pocket neighborhoodbecame available for eligible seniors. Our goal was always to provide safe and affordable housing for themen and women who have lived and worked in Springfield. The Community Gardens created fifty units ofsenior housing that incorporates the innovative Pocket Neighborhoods concept pioneered by Ross Chapin. Pocket neighborhoods are clustered groups of neighboring apartments gathered around a shared openspace with interconnected walking paths and front porches to encourage activity and neighborengagement. We are excited to pursue a second phase of our development and will apply for funding tocomplete our development concept and meet the strong demand for these homes.
I am also excited to share that I have assumed the new role of Special Projects Coordinator for NHP. GregWomacks, our Finance Director, has assumed the title of Acting Executive Director. I am confident that ourleadership is in good hands and am excited for NHP’s future. Greg and our team remain committed to ourmission of supporting affordable and quality housing. We know that homebuyer education and financialliteracy are foundational for individual empowerment and we remain firmly committed to the continueddelivery of these services.
