CEO’S MESSAGE
The public library is Cornwall’s place for discovery,
connection and enrichment.
-Cornwall Public Library Vision Statement
In 2016 the library continued to evolve and explore new programs and services to meet the needs of Cornwall’s citizens. We continued to advance our four strategic goals of:
1. Raising awareness of library services and expanding
library use by emphasizing social media for promotion and
focusing more on current cultural and social trends. As a
result program attendance increased over 40%!
2. Advancing the cultural initiatives of the City by:
Providing a venue for Artists and School exhibitions;
Participating in cultural events such as Culture Days and
Apples and Art Tour;
Participating on the Municipal Cultural Advisory committee;
Providing a venue for community supported agriculture,
sustainability, and the environment with partner groups;
Hosting Writer’s groups and events like NaNoWriMO and
visits from local authors: Katalin Kennedy, Gilles Renaud,
Anne Raina, Michele St. Amour, and Melissa Yi.
3. Positioning the Library as a key agency for literacy and lifelong learning by offering a variety of quality programs for all ages like BabyTales and the FORUM discussion group.
3. Building the library’s capacity to reach its Vision by increasing digital resources with the province’s Library Capacity Building IT Grant.

MILESTONES
Years of service 2016 35 years: Coleen Payette, Julie Ross 20 years: Dawn Kiddell 15 years: Joanne Cyr 10 years: Kim Malboeuf 5 years: Tiffany Montroy, Joseé Cousineau Retirements: Coleen Payette retired in July. An Information Services clerk for most of her 35 years with the library, Coleen saw many changes to library services over the years. Long-time bookstore volunteers Daphne Morris and Claudette Mayville also stepped down. Their many years of service are most deeply appreciated.
The library would not run as effectively without its dedicated volunteer base and community partners. Special thanks to: The bookstore volunteers who raise funds for the
library’s special projects, Program partners who volunteer time and expertise to
provide free programs to the community, The Cornwall Room genealogy and local history
volunteers, Homebound volunteers who deliver library materials to
those unable to come to the library, The many sponsors who provide funding and prizes for
library programs and outreach.
