PURPOSE:
The purpose of this Memorandum is to provide early childhood special education
teachers and administrators with the schedule of professional development for the
2014-2015 school year.
MAJOR
CHANGES:
This Memorandum replaces Memorandum 6345.0, Professional Development for
Early Childhood Special Education Teachers 2014-2015. Two additional trainings
have been added: Networking for Preschool Collaborative Classrooms and
Transition from Preschool to Kindergarten. See attachments I and J.
BACKGROUND: This document will serve as the announcement for training opportunities during
the 2014-2015 year for early childhood education teachers. All professional
development is in-person.
PROCEDURES:
Prior to enrolling, teachers must determine whether they qualify for the particular
training by reviewing the tables below.

Please note the location of the two Beaudry Headquarters visitor lots. The main lot is located at 1221 West Third Street immediately northwest of the Beaudry Building. Although the address is for Third Street, please note that the entrance to the lot is accessible from Miramar Street only.

If the Visconti Visitor Parking Lot is full, parking lot attendants at the garage will re-direct you to an overflow lot. Please do NOT park in any overflow lot unless directed – your validation may not be honored.
Do not park in the LAUSD Building Lot at 333 S. Beaudry. There is no visitor parking or validation for the parking lot in the LAUSD building.
There is no validated LAUSD visitor parking in the Beaudry Building Parking Lot. REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION TRAININGS
Registration for all Early Childhood Special Education trainings is available only through the
Learning Zone.
Participants are officially registered when they have received a confirmation registration e-mail in their LAUSD e-mail account.
Registration MUST be completed using the LAUSD single-sign on.
Note: Registration for each session will be closed two days prior to the date of the class, or when the class is full. Participants who do not meet requirements will be dropped by the instructor; dropped participants
will receive e-mail notification through the Learning Zone.
REGISTRATION DIRECTIONS: 1. Go online to the Learning Zone at https://lz.lausd.net 2. Log in using your single sign-on username and password (the same sign-on you use for District email) 3. Click on the “Courses” tab 4. Click on the “Class Offerings” link 5. In the Program drop-down menu, select Special Education 6. In the “Keyword” box, type in the keyword. Refer to the appropriate attachment to locate the keyword
for each course. In the “Classes for the Next” dropdown, select “6 months” 7. Click on Search 8. Click on the name of the course for the time and date you wish to enroll 9. Click on the Enroll Now button 10. Click OK to confirm your enrollment 11. Click OK again and close the existing active screen 12. Check your LAUSD e-mail account for confirmation of enrollment Note: If event is full, participants will not be admitted without prior registration. 13. Classes will only show for the next six (6) months, you will not be able to enroll in sessions more than 6
months in advance

Background: This one-day in-person workshop titled, “California Preschool
Learning Foundations and Curriculum Frameworks: An In Depth
Look at Preschool Standards,” is designed to inform staff about the
components of the California Early Learning and Development
System. The California Department of Education has developed this
system, in conjunction with experts in the field to:
Describe competencies/standards that all young children
typically learn with appropriate support
Outline key knowledge and skills that most children can
achieve when provided with the kinds of interactions,
instruction, and environments that research has shown to
promote early learning and development
Assist in decision-making at the child, family, and program
levels
The Preschool Learning Foundations are aligned to the Common
Core Standards for K-12. The alignment document can be found at:

Background: Preschool Positive Behavior Preschool Positive Behavior Practices Certification Training is a
three- day in-person workshop. This professional development
workshop is designed to assist staff in addressing student behavior
and implementing a multi-tiered positive behavior support approach
with emphasis on developmentally appropriate instructional delivery
and design. This workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Elizabeth
Hughes, Developmental Specialist. Teachers will receive a $500
stipend upon completion of the three-day training.

Integrating Positive Behavior Supports and Curriculum
Assessment of severe and challenging behavior
Self-monitoring systems for students
