CO NNECT
Dear Entrepreneurs,
It is my pleasure to present you the activity report of SME Chamber of India for
the year 2018. We have organised various activities and provided platforms to
SMEs, Start-Ups, Young and Women Entrepreneurs for enhancement of
business contacts, knowledge and business growth at National and
International level as well as interface with Senior Executives from Corporates,
MNCs, Banks, Financial Institutions, Policy makers, Thought Leaders,
Technocrats and Diplomats from various countries.
We have observed many SMEs are still struggling to avail bank finance,
business advisory services, lack of knowledge about company affairs, GST
formalities, compliances, labour laws, affordable advanced and patented
technology, identifying appropriate business partners, entering into global
market and affordable industrial land in various states as well as incentives and
schemes of various Departments of Government of India and States. In this
regard, Chamber will be taking practical steps for imparting knowledge and
promotional activities for the empowerment of SMEs.
SME Chamber of India has also taken initiatives to support SMEs to compete
with global SMEs by creating awareness programs and educate them to utilise
Digital marketing eco-system, Advanced Technology, Industrial Automation,
Internet of Things (IOT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) (Machine Learning),
Robotics Process Automation (RPA), Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality,
Sensors, 3D Printing, 3D Visualisation, Mobile Internet and Cloud, Big Data
Analytics/Open Data, Blockchain ready For Industrial Revolution 4.0 and other
avenues to improve their quality and productivity for better business growth.
This will be useful for creating more jobs and development of quality
entrepreneurial leadership amongst SMEs.
We will be focusing on various executive programs for enhancement of
capabilities, skill and scale of SMEs for better performance to contribute in the
era of “New India”. We will also emphasise on the policy change and policy
implementation of Central Government as well as State Governments to
provide support to SMEs and industries for enhancement of manufacturing
activities to achieve target growth of the Nation.
I invite Entrepreneurs, Start-Ups, Young and Women Entrepreneurs to join the
mission of the Chamber and also appeal to Heads of Corporates, PSUs and
Policy Makers to strengthen SMEs to achieve success at National and
International markets.

The inauguration of the Summit was conducted at the hands of Mr
R.M Mishra, Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner,
Ministry of MSME, Government of India and his stellar inaugural
address spoke volumes of the conducive business ecosystem that
the Ministry of MSME is setting out to achieve . To motivate,
inspire and be an inspiration to the dreams and passions of SMEs
in that they focus from local to global and if they can dream it, they
can do it. SMEs should have easy access to finance and they must
create goodwill by working in an innovative and professional
manner and be recipients of conducive funding to stimulate their
growth with greater awareness to technology, quality and
awareness. Knowledge is the key and provides the wisdom to
sense opportunities in advance with risk perception and this is
where the SME Chamber of India is doing a wonderful job. SMEs
must adapt to change and be receptive to the Internet of things,
artificial intelligence and innovative technologies to make them
grow global as India is the global hotspot of the future.
And in the process, we must assist and help SMEs to
metamorphosize from ‘a moth to a butterfly’.
Mr. R M Mishra - Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, Government of India is delivering inaugural
speech on "Empowering SMEs for Sustainable Growth – Role & Initiatives by MSME Ministry". Others (L to R) Mr. K. P. Singh – Head
(MSME Relationships and Government Schemes), Bank of Baroda, H.E. Mr. Tang Guocai – Consul General, Consulate-General of P.R.C

Welcome Address
Mr Chandrakant Salunkhe , Founder and President of SME
Chamber of India and SME Export Promotion Council in his
welcome and keynote address reiterated that SMEs must be given
a level playing field to reach their potential , as 8.3% GDP growth
achieved in the first quarter of this year deserves full credit to the
SME sector . And to reach double digit figures we must generate
conducive conditions to spur realistic growth of start-ups and
entrepreneurs and create avenues of opportunities and promote
SMEs to go global as is the case in China and South Korea .
We have to support and strengthen SME manufacturing industries
and this is why Pune was chosen as the venue for this Summit as it
is an important manufacturing hub. SMEs face many problems,
namely, capital market access in terms of SME stock exchange due
to insufficient listing, private equity issues and sluggish
enhancement of credit to MSMEs. They also face technology
transfer problems and skill building and in the process lose out in
the manufacturing process. Of MSMEs, the majority are in the
micro sector, followed by the small sector and the least in the
medium sector.
We have to develop a credible system for funding in time and to tap
the local and the global market. Another important issue is that
land is not easily available and this hinders industrial growth. To
achieve this, we must set up land banks, industrial parks, with
best quality infrastructure conducive to electricity, water and
drainage and educate and induce farmers and private land
owners to allocate land for industrial growth. We must tap smaller
cities as is done in Japan, China and South Korea and to induce
these countries to invest in India. To initiate this process, the SME
Chamber of India will conduct 42 programmes in 42 cities this year
to create new potential opportunities in joint ventures, technology
transfers, contract manufacturing and create conducive match
making with foreign companies. The sky is the limit for the
development and double digit growth of SMEs to make India the
global hotspot.
