Music surrounds us all the time. Whether it’s the alarm that gets us out of bed, the beat that drives us across campus in our headphones, or the background beat that accompanies our dancing, music is omnipresent. It is an ever-evolving art form; keep-ing up with it can be taxing yet rewarding. While it’s easy to hate on them, one thing that “hipsters” do right is staying on the forefront of new emerging artists. Hope you guys can dig this playlist, made especially for the budding hipsters out there.

HIPSTER - hipsters are a sub-culture of men and women in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie rock, creativity, intelligence and witty banter.
INDIE - an obscure form of rock, which you only learn about from someone slightly more hip than yourself.
GLAM - the art of celebrating all things beautiful, superfi cial. Marvelous, fabulous, imperfect, unserious.
CHIPPER - a woman who's easy. “She's a real chipper; she’ll sleep with anyone"
DECK - a key word for most hip-sters, similar in meaning to the antiquated “fresh.”
FRADO - an ugly guy who thinks he's good-looking.
TASSEL - girl. "Jim is defi nitely a frado, but somehow he gets a new tassel every night."
JUICER - a ladies' man. An indi-vidual who has undeniable sex appeal.
FIN - the opposite of deck, similar to outdated terms like "wack" and "lame."
FUNK – basically its like this: soul + drugs = funk. “George Clinton plays some funky-ass funk.”

The Honolulu Night Market is one of the liveliest, most expressive street fairs in Honolulu. Every third Saturday artists, musicians, foodies and artisans alike come out to dis-play their work and encompass visi-tors with creativity and inspiration. Visitors can expect to see vendors selling their creative pieces, from jewelry and art to clothing and food. Top restaurants from all over the is-land set up booths to satisfy your evening munchies and spike your interest in new and evolving menus. One can expect to see a plethora of cuisines and foods. The art at the Honolulu Night Market is expressive and passionate. When I went to the market in Feb-ruary, I saw small exhibits, people painting on the streets and even a trailer decked out in the beautiful images and colors. Street perform-ers could be spotted all over as were stations set up for visitors to get cre-ative with pens, pencils and markers provided by the market and/or artist managing the station.
When you walk through the mar-ket, you’ll see people of all ages en-gulfi ng themselves with creativity and originality. Bookstores, coffee shops, and a large warehouse are open to the public so that one can explore the vendors and art. There is no entrance fee, which is great for those who want to explore but not spend. Live music performances can be heard while you dance around, lounge on curvy benches set up on a platform of fake grass or chairs and tables set up by the food. To really understand the Honolulu Night Market you have to go and see it for yourself. There are constant ad-ditions of art and food to the market, as well as events and music headlin-ers. It is a perfect place to hang out and explore the newest and latest events with a trendy crowd.

You own a pair of TOMS.You only write in Moleskine journals.Do you drink kombucha?Do you think your mustache is awesome/do you think handlebar mustaches are awesome? (If you have a handle-bar mustache, add an extra point). What color is your fi xie? (Trick question: you have a fi xie; add a point).Would you want to be a barista? The majority of your wardrobe consists of screen-printed tees.PBR is your favorite beer. You have a token Republican friend whom you always refer to as your “Republican friend.”You watch unknown documentaries on the regular.Do you only listen to bands that no one has heard of before, like Fit for Hounds and Quadratic Emcees? You liked the page “Are you Buddhist” on Facebook. You’re too cool for Facebook.Do you wear your grandparents’ clothes? You deny being a hipster but secretly you like it on the inside.Do you refl ect deeply every day and have a meditation hour?Do you now enjoy the books you were forced to read in high school, like: The Great Gatsby, Oliver Twist, Pride and Prejudice and Huckleberry Finn?Do you try to shop online at IKEA, even though they don’t ship to Hawai‘i?Do you know Matt the Hipster on campus?Do you try to start your own fads?Did you make a Tumblr and delete it when it became too mainstream?
