All About Dogs
Listen, You! Dear voters, all come hear my plea! (All dog lovers speak with me!) Don't lock dogs up. (Poor little pups!) They've got a right to be free.
Some dogs might have cause to bite, But most are kind, unselfish pooches, Who give you lots of extra smooches.
Oh! Please, dear voters, hear my plea! Let the dogs be free!
Debbi Shulman
Dear Mr. Human You're really so wrong. What would you do If our freedom was gone? We help the blind people And chase burglars away, And warn our dear masters If something'~ astray. You say we're destructive Yes, some of us are. But how about your children, They're much worse by far. Boy, Mr. Human, You think you're so great, What about all the wars And man's destructive mistakes? You talk about Lady Bird
And beautification; But you are the litterbugs While on vacation. And m put this quite bluntly About ruining your plants: We were not brought up To wear rubber pants. Can you consider one minute How bored you would be To be chained every day, Not to be free? That is the sure way To make one cross and tart. We beg of you, kind Humans, Please have a heart.

Punkintown Fair Fri. & Sat. Punkintown Fair, New Salem
Volunteer Fire Department's annual onslaught on summer doldrums will be held on consecutive weekends, Friday and Saturday nights, July 29-30 and August 5-6, The fun begins 7 P,M, each fair night next to the firehouse on Route 85A, just a hose squirt from the New Salem 4 corners at Route 85.
The friendly firemen make no charge for admission and acres of supervised parking is provided free.
H a scheduled night is rained out, an additional weekend of family fun will be run August 12-13.

Where's Charley?
The Broadway musical comedy "Where's Charley?" will be presented July 30 in the Bethlehem Central Senior High School. at 8:15 P.M. This musical by George Abbot and Frank Loesser is being produced by the Charlatans Summer Theater as part of Bethlehem Central's summer recreation program.
"Where's Charley?" a musical rendition of the play Charley's Aunt, features such musical favorites as "Amy" and "New Ashmolean." Under the supervision of Sydney Turner, this comedy of mistaken identities and intertwining romances has been directed by Lila Geer and choreographed by Richard Feldman.
Oxford University - 1892 is the backdrop for much frivolous confusion and predicaments reminiscent of several comic Shake-
riage trade, jet set and grand old parents. So don't be glum, come-corne-come and go-go-go."
All attractions are owned and operated by the volunteers and include an antique merry-goround, honest-to-goodness fire engine ride, whip centrifuge and orbiting ferris wheel. Also, a galaxy of "funcinating" games promise exhilarating excitement for all and the gourmet and gourmand can have a lip licking good time.
A pony will be given away each Saturday night,
The proceeds from the fair are used toward the purchase of new fire fighting equipment and the maintenance and operation of 3 modern fire engines garaged at firehouses in New Salem and New Scotland.

Other schemers and victims of the fun and confusion are Tom Lunsford, Sharon Walworth, Judy Flandreau, Ted Phelps, Hank Kuivila, Anne Marie Brown, Peter Heron, Jon Deily and a whole chorus of dancing college gents with their lady friends.
Tickets are on sale at $1.00 for adults and 5M for children under twelve. They may be pur·chased from any member of the acting company.

It is called "A Day at the Races" and it is designed by The 'New York Racing Association to take participants behind the scenes of racing, including the custom of attending early morning workouts at the track on Union Avenue. "A Day at the Races" lives up to its name by giving people a chance· to start at 8 o'clock in the morning and then carryon through the nine thrilling races of the afternoon.
The bargain part of it is that for $4.00 those taking part .receive a reserved grandstand admission seat and a box luncheon provided by the famous H. M. Stevens catering company, whose first· race track was Saratoga in 1903. In addition there will be free programs for the afternoon's racing, free souvenir jockey caps for the youngsters, free "An Introduction to Racing" Primer, free group identification badges and free parking. About Tomatoes Many factors can be responsi
ble for rots or blemishes on tomato fruits. Some are due to dis- '1
ease pathogens or living organisms, others may be caused by low temperatures, poor fertility, drought, etc. Rots that are soft or have fuzzy growths in them are due to fungi and are most likely anthracnose or early blight and can be reduced con-
siderably by spraying with a fungicide such as maneb. Sprays should begin as soon as the fruits form and be continued every 7 days. however. even a late start· will be helpful. Tomatoes grown on new ground generally have fewer rots than those planted where the crop has been grown for several years.
Drought early in the season often brings on blossom-end rot, a dry black rot of early-
set fruits. Cells in the blossomJ
end of the fruits fail to get enough water and calcium salts. These cells die and produce the typical sunken black areas. Irrigation is often needed as a pJ;"eventative_ The use of mulches also helps to reduce this problem.
You may not recall it now, but we had cold nights in June. These cold temperatures were the cause of poor early fruit set.
