site, but made it’s easier and more
intuitive for you to navigate. This new
layout also opens the door for future
industry-specific information at your
fingertips.
New features include a sidebar with
immediate access to recent news, trade
show schedules, published articles, and
updated product literature. Check out
the news section regularly for the latest
press releases, articles, and upcoming
trade shows Algae-X will be attending.
Take a moment and see for yourself all
the great changes happening at

Mining Company Saves Money with ALGAE-XAt CertainTeed Gypsum a routine
maintenance item like fuel filter
changes can carry a hefty price
tag on large mining equipment. A
Komatsu P1800 with 2 Cummins
900 Hp engines can consume
$7,000 annually in filter changes
alone. This is due to less than
optimal fuel quality that requires
additional filter changes between
normal PM services. In addition to
the bare cost of changing filters,
downtime is even more costly.
H&E Equipment Services in
Little Rock, AR solved both the
maintenance cost and downtime
issues by cleaning the fuel tanks,
adding Algae-X Fuel Catalyst
AFC-705 to the fuel and installing
LG-X 1500 Fuel Conditioners
on the engines. The P1800 no
longer experiences the need
for additional filter changes,
eliminating equipment down-
time. Their savings on filter
cartridges amounts to several
thousand dollars per year.
Based on these results, CertainTeed Gypsum has decided to install fuel conditioners
on all Tier II and Tier III equipment operating in the mine. He has also proactively
treated the mine’s stored fuel with AFC-705 Fuel Catalyst and purchased an Algae-X
MTC-3000 mobile tank cleaning system to remove the water and sludge from their
storage tanks. For more, go to http://www.algae-x.net/pdf/CertainTeed_Gypsum.pdf

Engineering updateLate in 2007, we introduced a new, fully automated line of fuel filtration and
conditioning systems, the STS 6000 series. During the first two quarters of 2008, the sales of this new line has proven an enormous success.
The new STS 6000 series is the system that the market has been waiting for and is based on the very successful STS 5000 series. We have kept the efficient filtration layout, as well as the very reliable gear pumps. The innovations in the new system
are its very powerful brain, compact size and foot print, and low entry-level price point.
Christoph, our VP of Engineering, has designed a brand new UL 508A listed “Algae-X Smart Filtration Controller” for the new 6000 series. The controller features a programmable PLC with text read out, performance monitoring, alarm features, and remote communication capabilities.
The 6000 line is compact, versatile, easy to install and has very short lead times. Currently, the 6000 line has three different models: the standard 6000-4GMP, the 6000-S-4GPM, and the brand new “baby” STS 6000-SX. Please visit our web site at for more information and spec sheets.

Q&A TimeQ: What is Diesel Fuel “ALGAE”?
A: Diesel fuel “algae” is a commonly
used term to for the sludge that we see
in tanks and filters. Its origin was the
use of biocides to hopefully prevent
these sediments by killing bacteria &
other microbes that contribute to the
sediments. There is no “algae” per se in
diesel fuel, so the term is a misnomer.
While diesel is an inherently unstable
organic fluid, microbes contribute to
fuel quality deterioration. Microbial
contamination accelerates the natural and
continuous process of fuel breakdown.
The major oil companies publish a max
fuel shelf life of only 12 months after
production, even without microbes, diesel
is an inherently unstable organic fluid.
More stringent environmental regulation
and changes in fuel production, the
implementation of ULSF, and the use of
biofuels and their affinity for water have
had an increasingly negative impact on
fuel stability and shelf life.
The vast majority of the sediments that
form (over 90%) are comprised of fuel
molecules that have clustered together.
Catalytic cracking is used by refiners to
increase the yield of higher value fuel
products from crude oil petroleum.
Cracking produces hydrocarbons
that exhibit polarity. This polarity is
the principal reason for clustering
agglomerating fuel component forming
microscopic particles that increase in
size and mass to eventually form the
visible deposits of filter and sludge in
tanks. These clusters are the microscopic
particles that pass through ordinary
fuel filters and are the principal cause
of poor engine performance, smoke
emissions, injector wear, and ultimately
lead to clogged filters and dirty tanks.
A clogged filter is a warning signal of
fuel deterioration in your tank that may
have already affected your injection
equipment.
The Algae-X fuel conditioner is designed
to prevent and reverse these fuel
deterioration processes providing Optimal
Fuel Quality for Peak Engine Performance
and Reliability.

Good News!Clean fuel & Tank inc from Bonita Springs, florida, a fuel maintenance & tank
cleaning company SAVeD AT&T more than $75,000.
Randy Mote, owner of Clean Fuel & Tank, contracted with AT&T to cleaned their tanks
and reconditioned the fuel sitting in AT&T’s emergency generators. Now, thanks to
Clean Fuel & Tank using Algae-X’s mobile tank cleaning systems, AT&T has saved
a considerable amount of money and added reliability to their emergency power
systems.
AT&T owns 126, 60KW, 2-wheeled portable generators in its Lakeland location. Each
generator holds approximately 200 gallons of fuel. Traditionally AT&T would dispose
of the fuel and replace it with new fuel in preparation for hurricane season.
This year Betacom, AT&T’s maintenance company, contacted “Clean Fuel & Tank Inc”
to restore the fuel to its clear & bright pristine condition. Randy took on the project
using his mobile tank cleaning systems, an Algae-X MTC-3000 & an MTC 1000, and
treated their fuel with Algae-X Fuel Catalyst AFC-705 to ensure the fuel quality and
engine performance.
The Savings: Cleaning your tank and reconditioning your fuel is much more
economical than having it hauled off and purchasing new. In this example the
savings for AT&T were in excess of $75,000.
Marketing UpdateThe STS 6000-SX Automatic Fuel Filtration System data sheet is now available for distribution. The MTC Mobile Tank Cleaning data sheets have been updated to include the new Adjustable Flow Rate MTC 500-AFR model and the MTC 1000-LX model, which features stainless steel plumbing and cam lock connections. You can find these PDF files on our web site at www.Algae-X.net.

Our MTC tank cleaning systems have evolved over the past ten years. As we have listened to our customers who use them in the field, we have implemented their ideas to improve the performance, safety and reliability of these industrial-strength systems.
MTC Motor Guard – An increasing number of equipment rental clients are renting out their MTC systems. From them we have learned that a Motor Guard would provide extra protection for the pump and motor housing during transportation. Our engineering department has just announced that the MTC Motor Guard is now ready for prime time, and can be ordered under part number MG-01.
MTC Strainer Assembly is used when cleaning large tanks with extraordinary amounts of sediments and rust. The strainer assembly features a large capacity cast-iron strainer basket with mesh options from 20 to 400 micron; a magnetic
inserts to catch rust; a vacuum gauge and a quick release cover so that
emptying the basket does not require any tools. The assembly comes complete with three feet
of clear suction hose with cam & groove fittings and covers for fast and
easy hook up to your the MTC.
