AJM is a specialist tax consulting firm which o�ers a wide
spectrum of local and international tax related services. Our
areas of speciality include income tax, VAT, estate duty and
tax administration.
The increased complexity of the South African tax landscape
has over time necessitated such a specialist approach, and
against this background AJM provides its clients practical
solutions to achieve their commercial goals.
AJM has an excellent record of successfully handling
tax disputes which we attend to in the Tax Board and
Tax Court on behalf of our clients, in conjunction with
their attorneys and/or auditors.
Our team’s expertise includes restructuring of a�airs,
which ensures that existing commercial and family
structures may be restructured in a responsible yet tax

As registered tax practitioners with a variety of
academic and professional qualifications, AJM is the

The Team
Dr. Albertus Marais Director
After attaining the BAcc.LLB degree at Stellenbosch University, Albertus
continued his postgraduate studies at the Universities of Cape Town and Preto-
ria, whereafter he joined PwC’s corporate and international tax team. He was
thereafter appointed by the Wiese family’s Titan Group as its head of tax,
whereafter he established the AJM tax consultancy business. During this
period he also had the opportunity to gather experience as listed company
board member.
Albertus holds the Doctor of Laws qualification, is a chartered accountant and
an admitted advocate of the High Court of South Africa.
As tax consultant he considers it important to remain academically involved
and in pursuance of this Albertus regularly publishes articles in academic
journals. He also lectures at Stellenbosch University’s MAcc (Tax) course in
corporate restructures and tax avoidance while also reviewing dissertations for
the University of Cape Town. Albertus is the inaugural chair of the “Young IFA
Network” in South Africa, a role which he assumes within the broader “Interna-
tional Fiscal Association” (IFA). He also acts as peer reviewer for the De Jure
and Stellenbosch Law Review publications and is the treasurer for the SA
Children’s Home.
Pieter J.V Rensburg Director
Pieter holds the BAcc.LLB degree from Stellenbosch University. His post-
graduate qualifications include a HonsBCompt from the University of South
Africa and the MAcc (Taxation) degree from Stellenbosch University. He
completed his articles and qualified as a chartered accountant with PwC, and
continued in the practice as an audit manager for a number of years, after
which he joined PwC’s corporate and international tax team in Cape Town. He
is an admitted advocate of the High Court of South Africa.
After public practice, Pieter was in commerce in the local divisions of Austri-
an based Red Bull and the Italian Campari Group, where reporting, transfer
pricing and financial management were core to his role. Pieter is a member of
the Institute of Directors of Southern Africa which focuses on corporate
governance and the development of non-executive directors and holds the
Certified Director designation.
Currently Pieter serves on the board of SAIT and acts as company secretary
for the listed entity, Tradehold Limited.

The Team
De Wet de Villiers Director
De Wet holds the BAcc.LLB degree from Stellenbosch University. De Wet
joined PwC’s corporate and international tax team in Cape Town as a Tax
Consultant in 2011. During his time at PwC he provided tax consulting services
to various local and multinational groups which included advice on group
restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, capital gains tax and share incentive
schemes. He is an admitted advocate of the High Court of South Africa.
In 2014 De Wet joined Imperial Logistics to head up its commercial and legal
team with his main focus area being mergers and acquisitions in Africa. During
his time at Imperial Logistics De Wet was responsible for the set up of the
central legal department and company secretarial function for the African
operations and during 2018, partnering with Exigent, won the Innovation
Award at the African Legal Awards.
De Wet currently focuses on group restructuring as well as mergers and acqui-
sitions and has a keen interest in legal technology and innovation.
Megan Japhtes International Tax Manager
Megan holds the BAcc.LLB degree from Stellenbosch University. In 2012, Megan
commenced her two year internship within PwC’s Tax Academy and after the
successful completion she joined PwC’s corporate and international tax team in
Cape Town as a Tax Consultant. During this time she provided income tax compli-
ance and consulting services to local and international corporate clients within
the financial services, media and entertainment industries. She also assisted with
the set up and registration of public benefit organisations. Megan continued her
postgraduate studies at the University of Cape Town where she accomplished the
BCom Honours degree in Taxation.
During 2017, Megan joined British American Tobacco South Africa’s direct tax
team as an assistant corporate finance manager. She was primarily responsible for
the corporate tax compliance and reporting of all South African group entities,
staying abreast of tax legislation and advising the various business units accord-
ingly.
Megan is an admitted advocate of the High Court of South Africa, and currently
focuses on providing international tax consulting services, handling disputes and
dealing with general correspondence with SARS. She is also currently pursuing
her Masters degree in International Taxation at the University of Cape Town.
The Team
Juanita van der Merwe Tax Compliance Manager
Juanita holds the BCom Honours (Taxation) degree from the University of
Cape Town. She also completed an advanced certificate in taxation at the
University of South Africa and the advanced HDip in tax procedural law at the
International Institute for Tax and Finance. During 2017 Juanita continued her
postgraduate studies at the University of Cape Town where she was awarded
the MCom degree in Taxation.
In 2007 Juanita joined PwC’s tax compliance team in Stellenbosch as assistant
tax compliance manager and provided assistance to the other PwC o�ces.
During this time, she provided income tax compliance services to individuals,
trusts and corporate clients within various industries. She has in-depth experi-
ence in tax administration and as tax practitioner she has developed strong
working relationships with the various South Africa Revenue Service o�ces.
During 2015, Juanita joined the Wiese family’s Titan Group tax team as the tax
compliance manager and was primarily responsible for all the income tax com-
pliance requirements of all their South African group entities.
Juanita’s main focus is on providing tax compliance services to the various
clients of AJM ensuring that all their legal tax compliance obligations are time-
ously and accurately met.
Bobby Wessels Consultant
Deoran Wessels, or more commonly known as Bobby, obtained the
BAcc.LLB degree from Stellenbosch University in 2019. Bobby is currently
studying towards a diploma in accounting at UNISA and will further his post-
graduate studies commencing 2021. His focus is currently on corporate
income tax and VAT.
During his time at university Bobby was elected as President of the Helder-
berg residence, Chairman of the Prim Committee and held an ex o�cio seat
on the Student Representative Council.

Our fees are based upon the degree of skill and responsibility involved and the time necessarily spent on your a�airs by our
directors and other employees and/or agents. Our fees for professional services rendered and any additional costs and
expenses for which we invoice separately, plus Value-Added Tax (“VAT”) will be billed as agreed from time to time and are
charged from the first consultation.
Time spent on services by di�erent level of employees and/or agents is determined by the complexity and skill involved in
delivering a premium service to you.
Unless otherwise agreed, our fees are quoted and charged based on time spent on an assignment and the hourly rates of
individuals as follows:
