President’s Message Howdy Aggie Moms!
Fall is in the air…classes are well under way at A&M (it’s
hard to believe the semester is half way over!),
hopefully by now our Aggies have settled into the
routines of college life and the Aggie football team is
6-0 after a hard fought 2OT win over Tennessee.
Whoop!! After a much needed week off, the team rolls
in to Tuscaloosa to take on ‘Bama on October 22.
BTHO ‘Bama!
As always, the fall semester for CCAM is a very active
time of year! Membership is a primary focus for us as
well as several fundraising activities. Thanks to all who
have paid your membership dues—new, returning and
associate members! If you have not yet joined for this
year, NOW is the time to do so. You are encouraged to
pay your dues by the October 17 general meeting so
you can continue to receive our emails and newsletters
and to ensure you will be listed in our membership
directory which will be distributed at our November
general meeting.
Speaking of the directory, advertising in the
Membership Directory is a great way to support CCAM.
Ads placed in the directory help off-set the cost of
printing and we encourage our membership to support
those businesses that advertise. If you or someone you
know may be interested, artwork and payment are due
no later than October 21.
Have you turned in your Pecan order? Pecan sales are
underway and orders are due at the October 17 general
meeting. There are several pecan choices to choose
from: 1 and 2 lb bags of halves, 2 lb bag of pieces, 13
oz bags of flavored pecans, a 13 oz sampler and new
this year, a Texas-shaped Aggie inspired gift tin.
Poinsettias Sales begin October 17 also! These
beautiful Aggie grown Poinsettias are available in red,
white, and pink and are perfect for holiday decorating
and gift giving. Contact your family, neighbors, and
friends and help us raise funds for scholarships and
student organizations at A&M.
As you can see, this year is in full swing…We welcomed
over 80 new Aggie moms at our News Moms Tea last
month and we
had a great
turnout for our
first general
meeting of the
year. Shopping
at Rally House
was our first
Aggie Moms
C o n n e c t i n g
event for September and you won’t want to miss this
month’s event—a brewery tour at Franconia Brewing
Company in McKinney. Goodie Bag pick-ups, Scrip gift
cards, Aggie Angel sign-ups and a book signing by our
October general meeting speaker, author Melissa
Shultz, will all be available at our October meeting.
Please plan to join us October 17 at our general
meeting…a great place to get to know new moms,
renew friendships, make new friends, and be a part of
great traditions!
Thanks & Gig ‘em!

General Meeting
October 17 Melissa T. Shultz is the guest speaker at the October 17
General Meeting. She is the acquisitions editor for Jim
Donovan Literary in Dallas and has written about health
and parenting for The New York Times, The Washington
Post, The Dallas Morning News, Newsweek, Readers’
Digest, The Huffington Post, Next Avenue, Scary
Mommy, Babble, and many other publications and
blogs.
Shultz is the mom of two sons. She was born and
raised in Washington, D.C. From Mom to Me Again:
How I Survived My First Empty-Nest Year and
Reinvented the Rest of My Life is her first book. The
book is based on a year-long series she wrote for
the Huffington Post about her struggle with the empty
nest and the transformation of her marriage,
friendships, career, and ultimately herself. She found
that while women may read everything they can get
their hands on to prepare for their pregnancy and to
help raise their children, they do very little to prepare
for the day their children are no longer at home. And
so, the project was born.
Part self-help, part memoir, the book is filled with
advice from experts (including writers and journalists
such as Jane Pauley) as well as short stories that speak
to the universal truths of motherhood (and of course,
that means some laughter and some tears). It is also
much shorter than War and Peace!
Copies of Melissa’s book will be available for purchase
at the meeting for $15, with signing at the meeting
also. Melissa’s book makes a great gift for Friends and
Family and of course for yourself!
*** Cash or Check only, please! ***
Our general meetings are held at The Gallery Event
Room 6837 Coit Rd, Plano, TX 75024 (just south of
Legacy).

Aggie Angel Moms Needed An Aggie Angel is a veteran Aggie mom who is matched
with a New Aggie Mom and acts as a Big Sister/Mentor.
As Aggie Angels, we try to help New Moms by
answering any questions they might have and helping

not know about
Offer to take her to meetings/events
Sit with her at meetings
You get the idea! Let her know that Aggies are special

Cheryl “Action” Jackson Guest Speaker at
November 21 General Meeting Cheryl Jackson is on a mission to reinvent how the world treats families that need
something as simple as their next meal.
Jackson is passionate about fighting hunger, so passionate
that Essence Magazine featured Jackson in a four-page spread.
She has inspired, educated, and entertained thousands of
adults and children with her unique blend of keynote
presentations regarding hunger.
Jackson is a celebrated author, motivational speaker, and a
voice for the hungry. Governor Rick Perry and Phil Dyer, Mayor
of the City of Plano, have honored Minnie’s Food Pantry,
named after Jackson’s mother, Minnie Ewing, for their extensive work on fighting
hunger.
Jackson has used the local and national media to echo her voice of reducing hunger.
She was a contributor on WFAA, Good Morning Texas and a writer for the Dallas
Morning Newspaper. Jackson’s notable achievement was meeting Oprah Winfrey and
receiving a one-on-one interview. The following year she was chosen to play Oprah
for fifteen minutes in front of the entire Oprah show audience.
Through the leadership of Cheryl “Action” Jackson, Minnie’s Food Pantry has been
on The Talk, ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, Ellen, ABC, NBC, and all local
media channels.
We “CAN” Make a
Difference! At the November 21 General Meeting to honor our
guest speaker, Dr. Cheryl Jackson, we ask that each
Collin County Aggie Mom bring a nonperishable food item (or items) to the
meeting to donate to Minnie’s Food Pantry.
Minnie’s Food Pantry provides food assistance to children and families in need in
our community. Hunger is a growing epidemic and it continues to affect hundreds
on a daily basis. Please consider donating to Minnie’s Food Pantry.
