Reading Partners helps children become lifelong readers by empoweringcommunities to provide individualizedinstruction with measurable results.
The Literacy Challenge
In 2021-22, we will implement our program through ourtraditional one-on-one in-person tutoring model aswell as through Reading Partners Connects, an onlineplatform that allows community volunteers to deliverhigh-quality tutoring sessions to students regardless ofwhere they learn.
In addition, we are providing our students with access to a digital library full of culturally relevant texts as well as awide range of family engagement opportunities.
This school year, we are committed to serving 950students while partnering with 21 schools and 1innovation site across Washington, DC, engaging over1,300 community volunteers.

Literacy is the foundation of all successful learning.Without reading, students do not have the skills theyneed to be successful in school and in life.
Nationwide, fewer than 1 in 5 students from low-incomehouseholds are reading proficiently by the 4th grade (which equates to 8.7 million children).
Students who are not reading proficiently by 4th gradeare four times less likely to graduate from high schoolon time.
