Cain and Abel
Genesis 4:1-11, 256 The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and

The Lord’s regard
Genesis 4:3-5And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, 5 but for Cain and his offering he had no regard.
BQ: Why did the Lord have regard for Abel’s offering but not Cain’s?
Mark 12:41-4443 And he called his disciples to him and said to
them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the
offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has
put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
BQ: Why did the Lord have regard for Abel’s offering but not Cain’s?
1 John 3:11-1211 For this is the message that you have heard
from the beginning, that we should love one another. 12 We should not be like Cain, who was
of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were
evil and his brother's righteous.
BQ: Why did the Lord have regard for Abel’s offering but not Cain’s?
Hebrews 11:4By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable
sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him
by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks.

Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.

Themes in Genesis Four
By Faith
Faith is the attitude whereby a person abandons all reliance in his/her own efforts to obtain salvation, be they deeds of piety, of ethical
goodness or anything else. It is the attitude of complete trust in Christ, of reliance on him alone
for all that salvation means.~L.L. Morris, Ridley College, Melbourne

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, “The righteous
shall live by faith.”

Hebrews 12:21-2421 Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I tremble with fear.” 22 But you have come
to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable
angels in festal gathering, 23 and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the
righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of
