AAC Guideline 7.4 – Credit by Exam Administration Guidelines
BACKGROUND / DISCUSSION
AP Modern Languages:
AAC received an update on a credit by exam project undertaken by the System Assessment
and Testing Coordinators at their February 2019 meeting. Since the initial discussion,
progress has been made toward reviewing existing tests and determining if the curriculum
should be reviewed and updated. Recently, USD in collaboration with other Regental
faculty reviewed the modern languages AP test. Confirmation from other modern language
faculty will be forthcoming.
AP Environmental Science:
USD has begun to review curriculum for the Environmental Science AP exam. They are
currently in the process of determining recommended credits and benchmark
recommendations. When these recommendations are developed, similar to the AP modern
language, they will be routed to other Regental faculty for approval and review, and will
then be brought forth to AAC for final approval.
Dantes/DSST
Kim Goodfellow at SDSU is currently working to revise and update the Dantes/DSST
guidelines.
Project Lead the Way
An initial meeting with Project Lead the Way (PLTW) liaisons took place April 2, 2019
between BOR, USD, and PLTW. Follow up documents will be sent by PLTW regarding
process. USD has offered to pilot a health sciences course with a faculty member to review
the curriculum and test and determine viability.

IMPACT AND RECOMMENDATION
AP Modern Languages:
The modern languages request will be routed to faculty at the other Regental institutions
through the discipline council. Once faculty have reviewed the curriculum and course
offerings the updates will be brought back to AAC for review.
AP Environmental Science:
AAC members should continue to communicate with faculty discipline council members
when necessary, regarding AP curriculum review.
Dantes/DSST
The attached guidelines will be routed to the System Assessment and Testing Committee.
Project Lead the Way
AAC members will be kept apprised of relevant developments as they occur.

AP Exams
AAC item Feb 20, 2019 Credit by exam project update
USD faculty reviewed the AP exams in language and the following recommendations are suggested:
Exam Minimum Score Credit Hours Course Number
French Language & Culture
3 3 FREN 202
4, 5 6 FREM 202, 310
German Language & Culture
3 3 GER 202
4, 5 6 GER 202, 302
Spanish Language & Culture
3 3 SPAN 202
4, 5 6 SPAN 202, 303
Spanish Literature & Culture
3 3 SPAN 202
4, 5 6 SPAN 202, 335
Faculty rationale:
- FREN/GER/SPAN 211 that SDSU proposes, are not offered by USD and do not count towards the minor or major. At USD, only 300- and 400-level courses count towards the minor or major. If a student has scored that high, s/he should receive credit for a course that counts towards the degree.
- We do not agree with the idea of creating a course on paper, that doesn’t really exist because it is not offered.
- GER 211 is not listed as part of the German Cooperative Agreement, so it will not count towards a major or minor.
- For French, we are interested in negotiating a Cooperative Agreement with SDSU; until then, FREN 310 should be the course equivalent to an AP score of 4 or 5.
- In this way, the AP credit will be consistent with the courses we offer and will reflect the level that students have scored on their AP tests.
- And SPAN 335 for Spanish Lit & Culture is fine; SDSU, BHSU, and we agree on that.

Way liaison and began to consider
