areas, is a contemporary R&D organization. It was established by the Government of India in September of 1942 as an
autonomous body that has emerged as the largest research and development organisation in India and mainly funded by the
Ministry of Science and Technology. Having a pan-India presence, CSIR has a dynamic network of 38 national laboratories,
39 outreach centres, 3 Innovation Complexes and 5 units. CSIR’s R&D expertise and experience is embodied in about 4600
active scientists supported by about 8000 scientific and technical personnel. CSIR is awarded the National Intellectual Property
(IP) Award 2018 in the category “Top R&D Institution / Organization for Patents and Commercialization” by Indian Patent
Office. Some of the major CSIR achievements are India's first synthetic drug, Methaqualone in 1950, first Indian tractor
Swaraj in 1967, India's first ever parallel processing computer, Flosolver, etc.
CSIR- Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (AMPRI), Bhopal is a constituent laboratory of
Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. The institute was started in the year 1981 as a
Regional Research Laboratory (RRL) and renamed as Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute
(AMPRI) from March 2007 onwards by the CSIR to give more visibility for carrying out focussed research.
Institute has more than 40 scientists at present. The institute is also giving the opportunities to the candidates to
pursue PhD and integrated dual degree (M. Tech. and PhD) under the Academy of Scientific and Innovative
Research (AcSIR), an “Institution of National Importance”, headquartered at the Council of Scientific and
