§ Planned (and partially built) ring road of Greater São Paulo, Brazil § Biggest road project in Brazil, with a length of 177 km à USD 8.5bn § 1.7bn hours per year are currently lost due to traffic jams § Main objectives: Reduce traffic jams; improve transportation efficiency;
mitigate accidents involving dangerous materials; improve quality of life; control and prevent pollution
§ Construction slowdown, project delays and further costs § Government is considering re-opening the bidding process § Decreased economic return of the project § Further economic development in the region is at stake § With the money lost to corruption 124% more
roads and 525% more railways could have been built during Brazil’s major infrastructure program “PAC”
E.g. Mario Covas Ring Road - São Paulo
èCorruption scandal at state oil company Petrobras involved the country's biggest infrastructure companies and impacted the
development of projects
