Jamestown
May 14, 1607 the Virginia Company founded Jamestown
Site was bad, too close to the sea, on low swampy land. Mosquitoes everywhere
Because of location and the people, began getting sick and died
Because no one new how to farm starvation was a constant problem
Only way they survived was because of American Indian tribes giving them food.
Tobacco became the largest crop produced by the colony
First successful colony in the New World

Included: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut
