Statoil Report No. 8524/Ic
6506/11-7 Well, Offshore Mid Norway
CHAPTER 1
Summary
This report presents the results of a geochemical evaluation of the Statoil 6506/11-7 well (Mprospect), drilled offshore Mid Norway (Figure 1). The geochemical work analyses were requestedand selected by Statoil as a data only package from RRI and IFE laboratories. Subsequently, it wasrequested by Statoil that RRI interpret these data, and this interpretation is presented herein.
Samples of cuttings from within the interval 1460-4972m, cores from within the interval 4475.3-4876.75m and tested condensates and gases (DST-2 and DST-3) have been analysed in order toanswer the following objectives established by Statoil:
• determination of thermal maturity• identification and typing of potential source rocks• characterisation of tested fluids for source rock type and maturity and post-emplacement
alteration• determination of degree of oil staining in cores and comparison with tested fluids
The majority of the analysed well section was drilled with oil based mud (Versapro) and allinterpretations are considered with regard to this.

CHAPTER 2
Introduction
This report presents the results of a geochemical evaluation of the 6506/11-7 well (M prospect),drilled offshore mid-Norway. The evaluation is of data provided by the RRI laboratories to Statoiland analysed according to a Statoil work programme.
The objectives of the study were:
• to determine the thermal maturity of the section• to identify and type potential source rocks• to characterise the tested fluids in terms
of source rock type, maturity and post-emplacement alteration• to determine the levels of oil staining in sandstone cores
and compare the extracted oil stain with the tested fluids.
The analyses were undertaken by the RRI laboratories on a 'data-only' basis for Statoil.Subsequently a request from J Scotchmer of Statoil for RRI to undertake an interpretation of thegeochemical data was received and the project awarded on 26 October 2001. Final analyses werereceived for interpretation on 23 November 2001.
The numbers of analyses carried out during the course of the study were as follows:

Full details of the analytical programme on a sample-by-sample basis are presented in Table 1. Theanalyses were carried out by Robertson Research, with the exceptions of the gas analyses, whichwere carried out by IFE. All analytical work was performed in accordance with the guidelines givenin "The Norwegian Industry Guide to Organic Geochemical Analyses, 4th edition (2000)". Theanalytical data as supplied to Statoil by the RRI and IFE laboratories, and evaluated in this report, arereproduced in Appendices 1 through 13.

1 Introduction
Two gas samples from well 6506/11-7, DST 2 and DST 3 have been analysed for gas and
isotopic composition.
On the samples Ci - C5 and CO2 are quantified. The 813C value is measured on methane,
ethane, propane, the butanes and CO2, and the 818O value is measured on CO2. In addition the
8D value is measured on methane.
2 Analytical procedures
Aliquots of 0.2 ml are sampled with a syringe for analysis on a Porabond Q column connected
with flame ionisation (FID) and thermal conductivity (TCD) detectors. The detection limit
for the hydrocarbon gas components is 0.001 [il/ml, for CO2 0.05 (il/ml.
For the isotope analysis 5-10 ml of the gas is sampled with a syringe and then separated into
the different gas components by a Carlo Erba 4200 gas chromatograph. The hydrocarbon gas
components are oxidised in separate CuO-ovens in order to prevent cross contamination. The
combustion products CO2 and H2O are frozen into collection vessels and separated.
The combustion water is reduced with zinc metal in sealed quarts tubes to prepare hydrogen
for isotopic analysis. The isotopic measurements are performed on a Finnigan MAT 251 and a
Finnigan Delta mass spectrometer.
IFEs value on NBS 22 is -29.77 ± .06%o PDB.
The analytical procedures are tested with a laboratory gas standard mixture. Based on
repeated analysis of the gas standard, the reproducibility in the 813C value is better than 0.5%o
PDB for all components. The reproducibility in the 8D value is likewise better than 10%e.
3 Results
The normalised volume composition of the gas samples is shown in Table 1. As seen from
the table, the DST 3 sample has a higher amount of wetter components than the DST 2
sample. The stable isotope composition is shown in Table 2.
The molecular composition related to the carbon isotope variations in methane from the
samples are plotted in Figure 1 (Schoell, 1983), the carbon and hydrogen variations in
methane are plotted in Figure 2 (Schoell, 1983) and the carbon isotope variation in ethane
related to the carbon isotope variations in methane in Figure 3 (Schoell, 1983).
