Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 7th for Keeton’s 1st Annual Charity Rib off & BBQ, the next stop for the Miller Lite BBQ Cup Challenge. Events have been held throughout the summer at various eateries on the South Side for the bragging rights for the Best BBQ. Over 20 teams have entered so far including the likes of the Iron Barley, Sandrina’s, The Haven and Colorado Bob’s just to name a few.
Thousands of dollars have been raised for local charities during these events. Keeton’s will be donating the proceeds from their event to the Boys Club Alumni Association and the Bevo Neighborhood Association. The event starts at 2:00PM and admission is $20.00 per person, which includes samples of the ribs/chicken & a beer or soda.
Fitness 19 is cosponsoring the event and will have a booth with special offers on Memberships and personal Training giveaways and a free year membership for one lucky person. Many businesses have donated time and money or prizes to ensure the success of the event. They are the RFT, Miller Lite, Word Pro Systems, Restaurant Depot, EPFG and Behrmann’s.
Keeton’s address is 4944 Christie Blvd., which is just across the street from the firehouse on Kingshighway. The event will take place behind Keeton’s on the Parking lot. This is definitely a family friendly event. There will be a booth manned by the FBI giving away Child Safety Kits. There will also be a Water Cooling Station as well. There will be live music between 2:00PM and 8:00PM featuring the Pat White Band and the Night Owls Band. Keeton’s will remain open during the event and their kitchen will be serving other BBQ items in addition to their regular menu.
How can you lose? You will get some of the best tasting BBQ anywhere, make sure your kids are safe, listen to live music, get a chance to win a Gym membership and best of all help a couple of very deserving organizations; The Boy’s Club Alumni Association and the Bevo Neigh-borhood Association.
For more information you can check their website at www.keetonsdoubleplay.com or give them a call at
314-351-6000. See you there!

2011 LoUFEST MUSIC FESTIvAL
On August 27 and 28 the biggest indie music event in the St. Louis area returns for 2011. LouFest is held in the Central Fields area of Forest Park. 2010 LouFest was a great success so expect thousands of music fans to descend on St Louis for the 2011 LouFest. This is an all-ages event featur-ing 18 bands, local food, cool retail, and a greening effort that includes recycling, free valet bike parking, and a refillable water station. In Area K (as in K for Kids) our youngest fans will be treated to music, the magic arts courtesy of the Magic House in Kirkwood, kid-friendly food, a rock climbing wall, and more.
LouFest is all about the music and there will be two stages featuring 18 bands. You can expect to see The Roots, DeerHunter, Cat Power, and many other great bands. There is even a battle of the high school bands.
To get the full details on LouFest and all the other activities taking place such as the Saturday After Party, Area K, tickets, parking, maps, and the low down on all the scheduled acts go to http://www.loufest.com

4 ThIngS To Do In ThE LoU:
Cooling tips and simple advice to help ease the dis-comfort and health problems brought about by rising temperatures. How to stay cool.... Here’s How:
SLow YoUR PACE - Don’t over exert yourself. If you must engage yourself physically, slow your pace and choose the coolest time of day to do so.
STAY InDooRS - If there is no air-conditioning in the home, avoid the upper floors. Remember, heat naturally rises.
DRInK PLEnTY oF wATER - Avoid dehydrating beverages (caffein-ated drinks and alcohol). Iced herbal teas or healthy juice bars can be quite refreshing.
wEAR whITE - Choose white or lighter color clothing over black and darker shades that tend to absorb the heat, whereas white reflects the heat.
EAT LESS - Avoid eating large meals. Eating more frequently with smaller portions will be more easily digested. No need to stress your body further during a heat spell with a sluggish tummy.
REST - Lay down for a few minutes with a refrigerated face mask to refresh your body.
InSTALL A DE-hUMIDFIER In YoUR LIvIng QUARTERS. Sticky humidty in the air factors into heat discomfort.
QUICK CooL Down REMEDY - Apply ice packs or cold compresses to your pulse points.
