Reporting
Why PQRS?4 reasons

4. Position for value-based reimbursement• Reporting of PQRS
measures will determine application of CMS’ value-based payment modifier
How to Get Started4 steps
Step 1: Determine your eligibility.
Professionals are eligible for PQRS if they provide
services paid under/based upon the Medicare
Physician Fee Schedule.
No signup or pre-registration is required.
Step 2: Choose a PQRS reporting method.
There are five methods:1. Claims2. Registry3. Data submission vendor (DSV)4. EHR Direct5. Group practice reporting
option (GPRO)
So how do you choose which method is right for
you?
Factors to consider:• Cost• Your EHR• Risk• Complexity• Meaningful Use participation• Positioning for the future
Cost:• Some PQRS submission
methods involve costs:• Registry-based• DSV
• Other methods do not:• EHR direct
Your EHR• To submit PQRS measures
via EHR Direct, you must have an EHR qualified by CMS to submit EHR Direct measures.
• There are only 24 qualified EHR Direct vendors for 2013 PQRS.
Risk• Any time you convert data
from one system to another, you risk losing data integrity.
• Reporting through a registry or DSV that uses registry submission introduces this risk.
Complexity• Some options are more
complex than others• Most complex:
• Claims-based• Group reporting option
Meaningful Use Participation
• CMS has aligned PQRS and Medicare EHR Incentive Program:• PQRS Medicare EHR
Incentive Pilot
Step 3: Select PQRS measures to report.
Available measures will depend on the reporting method you choose. See www.cms.gov/pqrs for
more information.
Step 4: Report your selected measures via your
selected method.
The reporting period and process for reporting
measures also depend on your chosen reporting
method.
