Benefit of Simulation Tools for Customers
Why should simulations tools for technical and economical optimization being used instead of
standardized hybrid power blocks, e.g. 4MW DGS + 4MW Wind + 4MW/2MWh Storage ?
Pro: technically possible, as long as
• Maximum load is less than DGS
power
• No large consumer in operation
Con: most probably no economical business case
• Too high investment and operation costs related to what
is really needed (=load)
• No consideration of alternatives like PV, hydro or
biomass which could lead to much more attractive
business cases
• No optimization in terms of customer main focus, e.g.
IRR, payback period, LCoE
What are the customer benefits if simulation tools are used ?
• Project specific optimized solution
• You pay for what you need
• Lower investment and operation costs compensate for slightly higher engineering efforts
• Simulations, design, implementation, guarantees always based on the same algorithms and logic
