Two candidates walk in for a job interview. Candidate One knows that the interviewer used towork for a rival agency. Candidate Two doesn't.

During the interview, Candidate One engages the interviewer with questions about thecompany's strategy to compete with their rival agency. Candidate Two is equally as qualified, but comes off as generic. The interviewer offers the job to Candidate One, and Candidate Twogoes home fruitless.

The truth is, if a hiring manager calls you in for an interview, they already believe you capableof doing the job. Your resume spoke to them on a technical level. It's the human elementthey're looking for. The interview is your one chance to leave a personable impression.

If you're not memorable, they won't call you back. A CareerBuilder study reported 75 percentof job applicants never hear back from an employer, and 60 percent of candidates never hearback after an interview.

Your job is to convince them you're someone they wouldn't mind seeing five days a week. Youwant to come off as someone who's not simply a good culture fit, but an individual who'sthought about tangible contributions to improve the business as if you've already acceptedthe job.

These three tools will arm you with the knowledge you need to leave your interviewer with alasting impression:

You reply, "You've managed to both scale the business while staying true to your foundingvalues, and that fascinates me." The answer stays relevant to the question but ties in a topicyou know is of interest to the interviewer. Even better, you've demonstrated a match in valueswith the company.

What employers relish is a good fit. You need to be a good fit for the company, but for the longterm, they need to be a good fit for you. Social media is a convenient way of finding out whichvalues and interests of yours overlap with the interviewer, so you can demonstrate that you'rea good match.

Clearbit Connect lets you see all of a person's social media accounts in one place directlythrough Gmail. From one email, you can investigate your interviewer's social media persona, look for commonalities, and turn shared points of interest into talking points during theinterview.

Say you've been emailing HR and don't have the hiring manager's contact information.Connect also provides you the entirety of a company's email directory and allows you tosearch by name and job title. Once you know who you'll be interviewing with, search for theirname in Connect to find their email and take a look at their social media.

2. MattermarkDuring the interview, you get a question about what kind of contributions you could bring tothe table. The more tangible your answer, the more memorable you'll be. You need to soundfocused and informed.

Employers are looking for demonstrable achievement. They're less interested in titles. Thetitles on your resume got you in the interview room, but you need to show you can accomplishthings and that you'll continue to do so. Use information about the company to illustrate yourconcrete ability to get things done.
