2nd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME WWW.STANDREWMOORE.COM JANUARY 17, 2021
MINISTRIES TO THE BEREAVED
We have had so many funerals in the last three months that it seems like a good time to look at opportunities to console the mourning. We have a Grief Support Group that meets on the second Sunday of each month in the Knights Chamber. This is open to any individual who has suffered the loss of a loved one and is looking for ways to bear this burden. Those who have been coming will attest that when they listen carefully to what others share, their own burden seems a little lighter. “I am not alone.” This meeting is between the Sunday Masses from about 10:15—11:15am. Refreshments are provided. Masks and safe distancing are strictly observed to keep a safe environment.
Funeral Dinner Serving Teams are made up of individuals who are willing to set up, serve food, and cleanup in connection with the meals we prepare for families following the Rites of Christian Funerals. With sufficient numbers of generous volunteers to make up more than one team, there can be time for each to take a break between funerals. Funeral Dinner Side Dish Donations are a great way to help console the grieving. When you sign up to help you will go on a list of people we call before each dinner.

2nd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME WWW.STANDREWMOORE.COM JANUARY 17, 2021
We have had funerals in recent months for five individuals who succumbed to this virus. And we all know an increasing number of people who survived their bout with Covid or who are dealing with it right now. This includes all or many members of the same households. This calls for redoubling efforts to observe good hygiene, safe distancing, and wearing face coverings. Individuals who have personal opinions that make light of wearing masks need to wear them anyway because for at least the first few days many, if not most, people who contract Covid have no symptoms but can spread the virus nonetheless. Whoever in Oklahoma has been responsible for the distribution and actual injection of the vaccines has done a very disappointing job. If the vaccine is as effective as advertised, the more people over 65 who get it will begin to significantly lower the hospitalization and the death rate since that age group accounts for a huge slice of the deaths. Vaccinations should increase through the country health departments and there is an online portal that enables you to call and arrange an appointment. You may have to drive a distance to get one, but it should be well worth it. There is a faction among Catholics who have questioned the morality of taking these vaccines because their development may have involved the use of cells from aborted fetuses. The Vatican and the Bishops of the US have made it clear that both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines may be used without any worry of violating ethics or cooperating in abortion. Avoid being led into believing there is a problem by being referred to certain websites or TV channels—even Catholic ones, or worse, social media posts.
We offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Jane Baltrush, Tom Mills Jr. and Phillip Moore who were called from this world this past week. Jane & Bill raised a family of three children since coming to the parish in 1977. She had so many parish friends who will miss her greatly. Tom is the son of the late Tom Mills Sr. and his wife, Beth; and the brother of Mark Mills, all devoted members of this parish family. Phillip supported our computers and other tech devices for many years. We owe him a debt of gratitude for the countless volunteer hours he put into these tasks. He was a choir member for many years.
May All the Souls of the Faithful Departed through The Mercy of God, Rest in Peace.
