OVERVIEW OVERVIEW
In June 2002, KoGuan School of Law of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was established,
remarking a new episode. With the great support from School as well as community, KoGuan
School of Law has successfully made a breakthrough in the development of law against the
background dominated by Science & Engineering. KoGuan School of Law boasts law education
of high quality, academic researches, excellent professors and international atmosphere.
KoGuan School of Law has been in top 100 in the QS World University Rankings by Law
Subject since 2012, making it one of the fastest growing law schools in mainland China.

DISTINGUISHED PROFESSORS
KoGuan School of Law has 67 full-time faculty members. Among them, 2 are Yangtze River
Scholars, 2 are “The National Ten Outstanding Young Jurists”. Nearly 10 members are rated in
“Ten-thousand Talents Program”, “Outstanding Young Scholars Program”, “Millions of talents
project” and “New Century Talents Project”. 29 of them have been awarded the titles of
provincial or ministerial level or above, such as “National Model Teachers”, “National Excellent
Teachers” and “Shanghai Outstanding Teachers”, etc.
57% of the faculty are under the age of 45, 95% are JDs, 88% have overseas experience. The
internationalization level of our faculty ranks in the forefront of domestic law schools.

More than 1,100 CSSCI papers and nearly 100 SSCI papers
have been published. The number of published SSCI papers
ranks among Top 3 in China. Also, more than 60 monographs
have been published, among which Professor Bifeng Ye’s
Principles of Administrative Behaviors and Professor
Chengxin Peng’s Study of Modern Rights Theory have been
selected into the National Library of Philosophy and Social
Sciences.
KoGuan School of Law has founded and co-founded six journals, among
which, SJTU Law Review has been selected as an extended edition of
CSSCI journals, and ranked 7th in the reprint rate of the copied materials
of the NPC in 2018.
Asian Journal of Law and Society, an academic Journal jointly established
with Cambridge university press, is the first English journal of legal
sociology in Asia, has been widely acclaimed in the academic circle, and
has been included in Scopus, one of the most important citation
databases in the world.
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS
KoGuan School of Law is committed to conduct research at the current academic
frontiers, emphasize inter-disciplinary research, and achieve first-class scholarship
that meets the strategic needs of the state, and build the SJTU characterized legal
scholarship. It is the orientation and mission of the academic research of KoGuan
Law, which focuses on the cutting edge issues of academic fields, focusing on
interdisciplinary research, the major strategic needs of the country, and making
first-class academic achievements. In the previous years, our academic research has
made great progress, and carried out a number of influential academic projects,
recognized by domestic and foreign counterparts.

TALENTS CULTIVATIONThe undergraduate law program was established in 1992. In the past two decades, the law
school explored its own style of educating a new generation of law students and future jurists,
and established its own reputation in both academic and practical circles. For the time being,
the law school has a full-scale legal education system covering LLB, LLM, JM, and PhD
programs.

ACADEMIC COURSE OFFERINGSThe Master of Laws and Doctor of Laws are two key programs to train high-level legal
academia. KoGuan school of law arranges for full-time PhD students to visit overseas law
schools in order to improve their overall quality.
PRACTICAL COURSE OFFERINGSThe JM degree students are specially trained to become legal practitioners. In 2010, the SJTU
launched the experimental 3+3 Special Class in Law (a LLB/JM dual degree program), which
has been absorbed into the formal JM program supervised by the Ministry of Education. Now
the law school has three types of JM students; full time JM (non-law undergraduate), full-time
JM (law undergraduate), and part-time JM.
