ITEC Beauty Specialist

The main aim of the ITEC Level 2 Diploma for Beauty Specialists is to enable Learners to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to provide Beauty Specialist treatments to the general public and to gain employment in the Beauty Therapy Industry. This qualification is suitable for Learners aged 16 and over and is designed to provide occupational competence at Level 2. It also provides a sound platform into further training at Level 3
This qualification is for Learners who want to work within the Beauty Therapy Industry. The qualification consists of 11 mandatory units; Learners must also select optional units covering a minimum of 39 hours of Guided Learning (GL). A total of 482 hours of Guided Learning (GL) are required to achieve the full qualification

THIS QUALIFICATION PROVIDES: • The related knowledge and understanding required to
perform the beauty treatments listed above as well as understanding the structures that the Learner will be working over, in particular recognition of skin types, skin and nail diseases and reasons that may affect whether a client should or should not be treated.
• Opportunities for Learners to focus on the development of their wider skills in a beauty therapy setting, such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving.
• Opportunities for Learners to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a Beauty Specialist.

Basics of Beauty
PURPOSE OF QUALIFICATION
The primary purpose of the qualification is to develop
the foundational, practical and reflexive competencies
required for a career in the beauty profession. Central
to the Qualification is the development of a culture of
professionalism and service excellence in the Beauty
and Cosmetology industry.
The Further Education and Training Certificate: Beauty
and Nail Technology is to develop the self-directed
skills and knowledge of those employed in the beauty
industry as nail technologists, beautician or make-up
artists. It is designed for people who wish to extend their
range of skills and knowledge of the industry and those
wishing to follow a career in beauty industry. The
qualification is aimed at developing the necessary task
skills, task management skills and job/role
management skills of those working or intending to
work in the beauty industry. The learners will be able to
integrate the generic salon requisite skills, knowledge,
values and attitudes with those specific to the beauty
industry, ensuring the business in which they operate
runs smoothly and offers excellent customer service
according to industry standards.

• This qualification is awarded to people who have
demonstrated the relevant skills and knowledge
required to perform a range of beauty services at a
basic level within the salon environment.
• It will lead to entrepreneurial opportunities for
learners already operating or joining this profession
and enhance the self-image of each individual
learner as he/she becomes more professional.
• Holders of this qualification can conduct the
prescribed beauty service in a professional manner
and maintain service excellence in all their
operations.

Beauty and Cosmetology Industry as a whole and can

Makeup Artistry
PURPOSE OF THE QUALIFICATION:
The person credited with this unit standard is able to plan, prepare and apply make-up services their workstation and client for fantasy make-up application for all occasions. Learners will be able to record required information and assess the skin and underlying structures in order to perform a massage. Perform and manage the massage on the back and neck according to set standards. Learners will be able to prepare their workstation and client for a facial; they are able to recording relevant information and perform an assessment of the client's skin. Learners can use a facial steamer, perform an exfoliation/deep cleanse using the appropriate products and tools. They are able to apply and remove a mask and apply moisturiser on the face according to set standards and prepare a treatment locality and their workstation so that eyebrow tinting and shaping and eye lash tinting can be performed in a professional manner.

Nail Technology PURPOSE OF THE QUALIFICATION:
The person credited with this unit standard is able to prepare their workstation for nail enhancements and prepare the client for the required treatment. Learners will acquire knowledge and skills and apply a range of gel, nail applications, manicure and pedicure service and provide a paraffin or oil foot and hand treatment using a range of products. It requires knowledge and skill in the safe use of products and equipment and of legislation and policy, particularly regarding hygiene.
