During the first three weeks of April we will take a holistic look at hunger, its impact and how we can make a difference. We will examine global, local and personal hunger issues. We will learn together how God, through Scripture, calls us to respond.
There are many ways that you can engage in hunger awareness during these weeks. Please pick multiple ways to take part.

Focus on HUNGER this April
The Fellowship Council, along with the Ministry Council, invites you to a special cow fellowship event.
There will be food and activities inspired by our cow theme. During this time of fellowship, we will also learn more about the issue of world hunger and what the ELCA is calling us to do in response. We’ll also be finishing up our fund raising campaign for this ELCA World Hunger initiative (see yellow box below).
Come join us for cow-themed food, fun, and fellowship.

Easter Sunday Sunrise6:30 a.m.The Easter Sunrise Service has a long tradition in the church. We quietly gather in the narthex with lit candles and enter the sanctu-ary together where we are greeted with the announcement of Christ's resurrection. Then the organ explodes with music as together we sing, "Jesus Christ is Risen Today. Alleluia!" Pastor Pupillo preaches at the Easter Sunrise service.
Easter Sunday8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
The great festival of Easter fills the sanctuary with the sound of brass and organ and choir anthems, traditional hymns and the message of the angels: HE IS RISEN! With processionals, bells and the excited voices of children, we gather to worship the One who died and rose again so that we too might live forever. We celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion at all three Easter Sunday services. Pastor Solyst preaches at the festival services. This service will be signed by an ASL Interpreter.

Why Support a Mission Trip?__________________
This summer we will have over 50 people going on two different mission trips, one to West Virginia, in the United States, and one to Nicaragua. While the trip to WV, is spe-cifically for kids in our youth program, the Nicaragua trip brings together participants of all ages. Both trips seek to accompany people in difficult situations. Both trips hope to deepen our understanding of the people and circum-stances we serve. We go to help in whatever ways the communities need. We go to be the living body of Christ.
But why go on a mission trips at all? Why not stay in the La Crosse Area and serve the many needs of our own community? While there are mul-tiple reasons for this, a couple things stand out. First, we often struggle to see the needs of those closest to us, but when we move beyond our own context it is easier to pay attention somehow. Outside of our home environment, we are able to see things with a different sense of wonder. We observe more fully and ask more questions. When we leave our home context, it is easier for God to connect with us, as we are more open to something new.
We also leave our local context because needs are simply greater in other corners of the world. Yes, the hungry and poor are everywhere, but the severity certainly varies. We do not have a true sense of this until we travel. Mission trips help us to see the variety of needs, and they teach us how to best serve.
In addition to serving, mission trips surprisingly show us the beauty and wholeness that God brings about in every part of this world. Even in poverty, people can show great generosity. Even in suffering, people can experience deep joy. The people we serve often have more to teach us than we expect, and God blesses this exchange. What is more, when we return to our everyday lives after a mission trip, we have often been granted new eyes for the needs around us. We may serve abroad for a week, but the experience changes us locally for a lifetime.

2016
April
The cold days of February also cooled off our receipts from the good start we had in January. General Fund receipts from a four-Sunday Febru-ary were down about $16,000.00 from the five-Sunday January. We did, however, exceed February 2015 by about $1,000.00 and exceeded our proportionate budget for the month. Our disbursements for the month were less than January, less than last February and less than budget, but still were higher than our receipts, so we ended the month with a deficit of about $8,000.00. For the year-to-date, both our income and expenses were higher than last year. Our year-to-date deficit is about $2,000.00, compared to last year’s deficit of $4,000.00. As the
weather warms and we get closer to Easter, we expect our financial position to improve.
Our Keep the Vision Growing mort-gage reduction campaign had a good month in February. We received over $18,000.00 during the month, which allowed us to add a $10,000.00 princi-pal prepayment to our regular monthly payment. This brought our mortgage balance down to just over $500,000.00. We will drop below the magic half-mil-lion after our March payment. THANKS to all of you for your generosity. We hope you are having a blessed Lent and Easter season.
