Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston
Dear Friends of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston,Thank you to all of our generous supporters and incredible partners who helped make 2016 an exciting year for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (BGCGH)! We have served local children and teenagers for nearly 65 years in Harris, Fort Bend, Galveston and Waller counties by providing nationally-acclaimed programming to ensure that our youth succeed at school, develop college and job readiness, avoid unhealthy and risky behaviors, and grow into citizens who give back to their neighborhoods and communities.
We are grateful for the commitment and strong financial support of corporations, foundations, individuals, governmental partners and our Board of Directors. Here are several 2016 standout achievements:
• The Houston Texans Teen Club opened its doors to local teenagers ages 14-17 in November. The Texans signed a five-year, $750,000 partnership with BGCGH, the largest donation by a professional sports team in Houston. The Houston Texans Teen Club will serve as a supportive facility for teens as they transition toward adulthood.
• The BGCGH Young Professionals (YP) Organization was established in May with a leadership group of 24 individuals. The YP organization has brought hundreds of young professionals together through social and networking events, and our Clubs have received many new volunteers from this group.
• The inaugural Fort Bend County Boys & Girls Clubs Sporting Clays Tournament took place in October at the Greater Houston Gun Club, raising almost $100,000 for our three Fort Bend County Clubs.
• In March we revealed NCAA and Lowe’s Legacy Project renovations at the Jim & Barbara Morefield Club, specifically a completely refurbished gym, exterior updates and brand-new appliances.
• The Great Futures Dinner honoring the Taco Bell Foundation raised $670,000 with more than 750 guests in September. The Taco Bell Foundation sponsors the Graduate for Mas program for our teens and generously donated over $175,000 to BGCGH in 2016.
• Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston was chosen as one of the two beneficiaries of $35,000 from the inaugural Astros Foundation Charity Game with ROOT Sports in September, where Hall of Fame Charity bags were sold to fans.
• During the summer, we partnered with NASA Johnson Space Center. Our Club members had the opportunity to participate in Astro Camp, a challenging, science-based camp focused on space and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
• Other key gifts in 2016 included $275,000 from the George Foundation in support of Fort Bend County Clubs; $200,000 from the Henderson – Wessendorff Foundation in support of the Richmond-Rosenberg Club; $175,000 from Phillips 66 in support of the SPARK Early Literacy Program; $125,000 from the Ippolito Charitable Foundation in support of our Johnny Mitchell Club; $100,000 from the Brown Foundation for capital improvement; $100,000 from Sysco Corporation in support of the Kids’ Cafés; and $75,000 from ConocoPhillips in support of Math Express.
• 1,796 of BGCGH children and families received gifts and holiday meals this year thanks to Santa Project and the donations of our supporters. Special thanks to top holiday donors Pappas Restaurants, the Houston Food Bank, Kareem Jackson, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Congressman Sheila Jackson Lee, Spark Energy and Kirksey Architecture.
• And finally, for the fourth year in a row, BGCGH was honored as one of Houston Business Journal’s Top Houston-Area Charitable Organizations in 2016. BGCGH was also a finalist for Houston Business Journal’s Landmark Award in the Community Impact category for our Richmond-Rosenberg Boys & Girls Club.
While we are proud to have served over 11,000 youth at our 14 Clubs, many more youth need access to our high-quality programming, warm meals, homework assistance, arts and sports programs and caring mentors. Every child deserves a safe place like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston. Thank you for supporting our efforts to ensure all youth have the same opportunity to achieve a GREAT FUTURE! With grateful thanks,
Christopher Papouras Kevin Hattery2016 Board Chair President & CEO

Because of you …
• Over 11,000 youth walked through our doors at one of our 14 Clubs. They found the resources and relationships needed to reach their full potential.
• Our Club members learned the importance of graduating and more about college, jobs and opportunities after graduation. Club teens experienced college life by attending eight college campus tours. Approximately 65 teens were able to spark their interest in getting to know the history and certain criteria that is needed to be accepted into a four-year institute.
• 3,948 teens attended a Club. 2016 was our Year of the Teen, when we focused on continuing to offer endless opportunities for teens to succeed academically and live a healthy lifestyle while using their voice and talent to make a difference in our community.
• Kids and teens were exposed to new experiences; their eyes were opened to new possibilities; and they are one step closer to reaching their full potential.

Renowned local artist, Jimmy Houston, painted the beautiful mural on the outside of the building, and Carnival Cruise Line sponsored the facility’s Carnival’s Endzone, a game room with comfortable couches, video games and a pool table. Thank you, Houston Texans, for creating a safe place for Houston’s teens to succeed!
Graduate for Mas
Sponsored by the Taco Bell Foundation, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston hosted our Graduate for Mas teen celebration on July 15 at the Allen Parkway Boys & Girls Club. The two-hour celebration event was jammed pack with workshop activities and speakers who gave encouraging words to participating teens that attended the event.
NASA Astro Camp
Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston and NASA partnered during summer 2016 in providing Astro Camp® to over 300 members across 10 clubs. Astro Camp® is a part of the NASA Out of School- time Learning (NOSL) network providing opportunities for 4th - 6th grade members to engage in science, technology, engineering and mathematics education activities (STEM). Program Highlights
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston
Great Futures Dinner
The 28th annual Great Futures Dinner was held on Thursday, September 8th at the Hilton Americas in downtown Houston. This year’s dinner was presented by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, chaired by Laura and Will Leven and emceed by KPRC Channel 2’s Khambrel Marshall. Taco Bell was honored for their continual support of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston, specifically our teen programming. Taco Bell hosts Grad for Mas, a celebration of high school graduation, for our Club members every year. Te’a Edwards, the Greater Houston Youth of the Year, spoke about how the Club has greatly impacted her path to success. Former Houston Texans Offensive Lineman Chester Pitts was the keynote speaker. We had both a live and silent auction, where fabulous trips, Super Bowl tickets, and unique experiences were bid on by our 700+ guests. We are grateful to all of our sponsors, especially our top sponsors: Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, Laura and Will Leven, Nabors Industries, Sysco Corporation and Taco Bell Foundation. We raised almost $700,000 for our 14 clubs across the Greater Houston area.
Fort Bend County Boys & Girls Clubs Sporting Clays Tournament
The inaugural Fort Bend County Sporting Clays Tournament took place on Tues-day, October 4th at the Greater Houston Gun Club. Ray Brown and Kevin Zlotnik co-chaired the tournament, and Spark Energy was the tournament sponsor. The day started at noon with lunch donated by Lopez Restaurants. The shoot began at 1:30 pm with about 80 players. Academy Sports + Outdoors donated
the ammunition and giveaways for the tournament. After the shoot, we had wings donated by Buffalo Wild Wings – Richmond, beer donated by Silver Eagle Distributors, and wine donated by Southern Glazer’s. Throughout the day, players enjoyed water and soft drinks donated by Minute Maid. We are grateful to all of our in-kind and team sponsors, especially Spark Energy, OCuSOFT, Sugar Land Skeeters and Energy Services Group.
Young Professionals OrganizationThe Young Professionals Organization, a membership organization of passionate young professionals whose purpose is to support the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston, formed in June 2016 with a leadership group of 24 individuals. The vision for the Young Professionals Organization is to proactively engage the next generation of Houston community leaders to be a part of our organization. Comprised of individuals in their 20’s and 30’s, this group focuses on volunteering, fundraising, socializing and networking. The YP organization supports our current events and clubs but also creates their own opportunities as a group. Volunteer opportunities are created in partnership with the young professionals both in individual and group settings.
Since its inception, the organization has had three social events and eight volunteer events. Over 120 young professionals have volunteered at one of our 14 Clubs across Greater Houston, and over $3,000 has been donated back to the Clubs by young professionals.
