HPB Training Through the Fellowship Council/AHPBA Pathway
WHAT? With the increased focus on organ based training, training in HPB surgery has come into its own. HPB fellowships provide exposure to complex diseases of the liver, biliary tree and pancreas. Emphasis is placed on technical skills as well as the work up and management of the complex HPB patient in the preoperative and postoperative setting. MIS skills and ultrasound are emphasized. Case volumes include a MINIMUM of 100 complex HPB cases of which 25 pancreas, 25 liver and 15 biliary cases must be performed. Fellowships are one or two years long.
