Newaygo CountyThe Newaygo County Economic Development Office (NCEDO) signed a three-year service contract with The Right Place, in 2015, to provide direct economic development services to the Newaygo County business community. Through this new partnership, NCEDO plans to leverage The Right Place’s extensive business retention, expansion, and attraction services to provide a higher level of direct assistance to Newaygo County’s major employers.
Ionia CountyIn 2011, The Right Place, Inc. and the Ionia County Economic Alliance (ICEA) formed a strategic partnership to support economic growth in Ionia County and West Michigan. The Right Place and ICEA work together to provide comprehensive economic development services including business retention, expansion and attraction support to Ionia County businesses. Additionally, The Right Place provides marketing support to promote Ionia County assets to new potential businesses outside the region.
Montcalm CountyIn 2015, The Right Place and The Montcalm Economic Alliance announced the start of a three-year economic development contract to support future growth and job creation in Montcalm County. Under the terms of the agreement, The Right Place will provide Montcalm companies with the tools and resources available to continue growing in the community, as well as market the County to new businesses. This new partnership expands on a contract first established with Greenville and the Greenville Chamber of Commerce in June 2014.

STRATEGICPLANThe Right Place 2014-2016 strategic plan, developed in partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC, is based on global market research and extensive interviews with business and community leaders in West Michigan, including The Right Place Board of Directors. The resulting plan identifies a system of economic progress and focuses The Right Place’s efforts on both improving the region’s economic underpinnings and spurring growth in several strategic areas.
Foundations of Economic GrowthEvery regional economy has foundational elements which are critical to economic growth. Without investing in and enhancing these fundamentals, West Michigan’s overall economic future is at risk. For this reason, The Right Place will focus on three foundational areas over the next three years, business support systems, infrastructure, and work-ready talent.
Strategic Growth AreasFrom furniture to automotive parts to medical devices and award-winning software; West Michigan’s economic history is based on innovative entrepreneurs with the know-how to make things. Today, our business community is uniquely positioned to drive economic growth in several key areas, including: smart manufacturing, agribusiness and food processing, life sciences and bio-med, information and communications technology, and commercial design. These areas offer tremendous potential for West Michigan job creation.

1 The methodology used for calculating areas of capital investment was based on the analysis of 13 varied projects, managed by The Right Place, over a five-year period (2009-2013). Based on past percentage averages of previous investment levels, estimates were built for new estimated capital investment.2 Estimates for Machinery & Equipment are calculated at 43.34% of the overall capital investment. However, The Right Place’s new strategic plan on two new economic areas, Technology and Design, which may have a lower Machinery & Equipment expense percentage than projected.
Our 3-year strategic plan establishes three clear metrics of success for our organization and for West Michigan. Achieving these goals will not only bring new economic growth to the region, but new business opportunities to existing businesses in the region.
