THE PROGRAM Inspired in the prestigious Stanford University’s Biodesign Fellowship, d·HEALTH Barcelona is a unique 9-month postgraduate program which provides disruptive education, training and mentorship to turn graduates and PhD’s in Health, Bio, Tech, Business, Engineering and Design into innovative entrepreneurs.

5 weeks intensive module, aiming to foster team building and to provide a broad introduction to the terms and basic concepts of each discipline, allowing participants to communiate with a common and profesional language at the clinical settings.

8 weeks of clinical immersion at a leading hospital to identify unmet clinical needs in the chosen specialty area. Each team observes directly on an environment with interaction with doctors, nurses and patients, and develops a list of unmet clinical needs. This involves lectures on the single clinical area, review of surgery, interaction with all caregivers and patients.

INVENT: DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGY
Ideation using creativity and brainstorming techniques such as PRIZM
Prototyping using rapid prototyping technologies (3D Printing)
7 weeks of characterization of the unmet needs into possible solutions. During the process of building multiple prototypes and proofs of concept, fellows interact with physicians, industry representatives and faculty to validate the clinical and commercial impact of their inventions.

12 weeks in which fellows are trained in business concepts that are key to success in medtech, including intellectual property, medical device regulation, reimbursement, and business plan development. Fellows engage with experts in industry through a series of lectures and reviews that prepare them for translation of their innovation to the market.

INVESTOR DAY
Fellows make the first presentation of their projects to a panel of advisors and mentors during the Graduation Day. The best project from the last edition participated in the European Biomedical Investor Day (EBID) that gathers the main Biodesign programs currently run internationally. Teams pitched their innovative solutions to a panel of international investors, entrepreneurs, business managers, policy decision makers and healthcare professionals. The goal of this last part of the process is to help the teams to make progress with their fundraising conversations and customer relationships.
