Beatriz Gil, a 5th grade student from our school (CEIP
Los Olivos), was the region winner of the contest “¿Qué
es un rey para ti?” (What’s a king for you?).
For this contest, 1,298 students from 83 schools present-
ed their works, which may consist on tales, poetry, com-
ics, pictures, crafts or any other form of expression, ei-
ther in paper or in a digital format.
Our students Beatriz presented a beautiful sculpture of
King Juan Carlos I, dressed as a Spanish footballer and
accompanied by a poem. This work was the winner due
to its originality and physical resemblance to the King of
Spain.
Thanks to this work, Beatriz could visit and give the
monarch her work in person, accompanied by her family,
her teacher, and the winners from other regions.
Last 10th October 2011, the 6th grade students from our
school went on a school trip to “Mohernando”. Moher-
nando is a small village that belongs to our province
Guadalajara. Only thirty minutes far away from our city.
We spent one week on an English bilingual school farm
with other students from a school in Madrid, the capital
of our country.
We left our city at half past nine in the morning and we
arrived there at ten o’clock in the morning as well. The
journey was really short.
It was a very beautiful place with many nature spaces to
carry out the activities. It was divided in two areas, one
of them was the forest and the other one was the animal’s
area. Some of the animals were pigs, cows, goats, os-
triches, horses…
We participated in many activities such as clay’s works,
making flutes, English classes, environment and astrono-
my works, riding horses, visits to the farm and the green-
house, games, disco and dancing.
The last day the different groups prepared choreography
and danced in the stage with all the students as public.
We really enjoyed, we learnt so much about everything
and especially the teachers congratulated us for our great
English!!
Last 10th October 2011, the 6th grade students participat-
ed in a school trip. We went to “Valencia”, a city situated
in the East of Spain. We spent the week on a bilingual
school farm with “King’s College”. We shared this expe-
rience with another school from “Huesca” in the Nord-
West of our country.
We travelled by bus. We left our city at three o’clock in
the afternoon and we arrived there at half past eight in the
evening.
When we arrived, we met the new teachers we were go-
ing to have during the week. After that, they showed us
our rooms and we had some discussions when choosing
our beds.
We carried out many activities including climbing, recy-
cling works, environmental activities, water polo (the
water was really cold), games, English classes, visits in
the farm… The most interesting thing was that in all of
these activities the teachers communicated with us in
English!!
It was really a great experience!! We made new friends
from Huesca and especially new teachers who spoke
English very well.
Every year, the students in the 6th grade celebrate the
ending of the school year going on a school trip. This
year we are thinking about travelling to “Valle del Jerte”
in Cáceres in the South-West of Spain. We have orga-
nized a small market to make some money with the help
of our families.
During the week we organize some groups to be respon-
sible of the market at the break time. The rest of the stu-
dents in the school visit us and some of them collaborate
with us buying some of our products. The families come
there during the break and do the same as well. In this
market we are selling hand-made objects by the 6th grade
students. Some of the products we are selling are toys,
brooches, bracelets, food, biscuits or cakes.
Up to now we have collected one thousand euros approx-
imately. However, we have planned to collect more mon-
ey.
We are all really excited with the trip because we will
carry out many sporty activities in nature such as riding
horses, swimming in the river, archery, night activities,
gymkhana, traditional games, football, volleyball, eco-
logical routes or reading.
We hope to fulfill our prospects to get enough money for
the trip. However, the most important thing for us is to
learn and to value how much effort we have to do to get
money.
Valle del Jerte (Cáceres)
The sixth grade students go every year to an End of Year
trip. This year we are going to “Valle del Jerte” and we
have organized a bazaar in order to get some money for
the trip. Our parents have helped for this purpose.
Some of the things we are selling are: homemade imita-
tion of jewellery and art, toys, homemade food and any
other object donated by students and their families.
We have collected about €1000 but there is still more
money left to collect.
All of us are very excited about the trip because we are
going to do lots of environmental activities and we are
going to have a fantastic time.
This national day (23
April National
Sovereignty and
Children's Day) in
Turkey is a unique event.
The founder of the
Turkish Republic,
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,
dedicated April 23 to the
children of the country to emphasize that they are the
future of the new nation. It was on April 23, 1920,
during the War of Independence, that the Grand National
Assembly met in Ankara and laid down the foundations
of a new, independent, secular, and modern republic
from the ashes of the Ottoman Empire. Following the
defeat of the Allied invasion forces on September 9, 1922
and the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne on July 24,
1923, Ataturk started his task of establishing the
institutions of the new state. Over the next eight years,
Ataturk and his followers adopted sweeping reforms to
create a modern Turkey, divorced from her Ottoman past.
In unprecedented moves, he dedicated the sovereignty
day to the children and entrusted in the hands of the
youth the protection of this sovereignty and
independence.
In our school,We
celebrated “The
Children’s Day” as a
festival like the other
schools all around the
country. Parents of
pupils come to school
from the other
villages for the
festival.Our students danced,acted sketches,played games
and sing songs. And their parents watched their
performances, took photos and applaud their children.
Some of students took presents from the school because
They had a degree in the competitions of writing
poems,drawing pictures,writing compositions about
meaning and importance of the 23th of April.
Also as a different activity for this 23th of April ,we
prepared a sale of work, and all teachers made some cakes
and etc...And We prepared stands for it.Students became
the sellers and they earnt money for our school by selling
the cakes on the festival day.
Every year, the children in Turkey celebrate this
"Sovereignty and Children's Day" as a national
holiday. Schools participate in week-long ceremonies
marked by performances in all fields in large stadiums
watched by the entire nation. Among the activities on this
day, the children send their representatives to replace
state officials and high ranking bureaucrats in their
offices. The President, the Prime Minister, the Cabinet
Ministers, provincial governors all turn over their
positions to children's representatives.
Every year, Lots of children come to Turkey from
different nationalities for this festival, so we also intive
our partner pupils from other countries to Turkey and
join our Big Festival. And we hope the next year,In Czech
Republic,we can
meet to celebrate
our “European
Young Festival”
See You:)
On the 7th April we went on a school trip to Marche. We
visited Urbino and Recanati.
Urbino is a small town famous for its reinassance culture.
The main attraction of Urbino is the Palazzo Ducale, be-
gun in the second half of the 15th century by Federico II
da Montefeltro. It houses the Galleria Nazionale delle
Marche, one of the most important collections of Renais-
sance paintings in the world.
We visited “Palazzo Ducale and some of its 260 rooms.
The State Dinimg Room was the biggest in the palace; it
was wonderful, but very cold!
Then we visited Raffaello’s birthplace or also called
Casa Santi (Giovanni Santi was Raffaello’s father) that
now is an important museum where you can admire
important paintings.
Later we had lunch and we went to Recanati. There we
visited Leopardi’s house, but just the library because
the house is inhabitated by Leopardi’e descendants.
This library is very famous and it contains 12,000 old
books!
In the evening, very tired, we went back home.
Our school trip was really great. We enjoyd it very
much!!!!
Students in year 2
Students in year 3
In our middle school, students in year 3 usually go on a
long school trip.
This year, in April, we went to Basilicata and Puglia, in
the South of Italy. We visited some famous towns for
three days.
We left from school at 5:00 am of the 2nd April.
We arrived to Matera at about midday. We had lunch and
then we visited the oldest part of the town that is called
the “Sassi di Matera (meaning "Stones of Matera").The
Sassi are houses dug into the calcareous rock itself,
which is characteristic of Basilicata.
We left during the afternoon and we arrived to our hotel
near Lecce in the evening.
The hotel was confortable and our bedrooms were over-
looking the sea as the restaurant where one day, while we
were having breakfast, we saw some dolphins from the
windows. What an impressive sight!!! We had dinner at
the hotel restaurant; the food was very good. We tried
some typical dishes as “orecchiette alle cime di rapa” ( a
typical kind of pasta with broccoli).
The following day we visited Lecce one of the most im-
portant city of Puglia. We admired its particular baroque
style; we visited lots of cherches. Because of the rich Ba-
roque architectural monuments found in the city, Lecce is
commonly nicknamed "The Florence of the South".
We had lunch at the hotel and during the afternoon we
visited Otranto. It’s a sea town, near by the Strait of Ot-
ranto to which the city gives its name. There we visited a
church with the bones of 800 martirs who were killed by
Turkish in 1480
The last day we visited Alberobello which had some par-
ticular houses called Trulli. We could visit them inside.
The Trulli of Alberobello are part of the UNESCO World
Heritage sites list since 1996.
We had lunch with some sandwiches and then we visited
Castel del Monte, a medieval castle. It was built by the
Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II during the 1240s;
We left at 5:00 pm and got home at about 11.30.
Come and visit these wonderful places!
Our trip was great!!!
Project Day with Amos
Project “Day with Amos” took
part at our school on 28th
March 2012. We reminded
420th jubilee of birth of
“Teacher of nations” Jan Amos Comenius in unconven-
tional way. All teachers prepared funny lesson. Children
could form their own timetable from eleven unconven-
tional workshops. It was interesting because we tried
something new than usually. I registered playing the
drums, P.E. with Mrs.director, I learned Morse code. My
favorite lesson was preparing fruit salads with
Mrs.teacher Jurčíková. I even tried one at home.

Night with Andersen
We would like to let you know about a night of fairy tales
which the children in our school experienced for the
twelfth time this year. On Friday, March 30th 2012 many
libraries and schools in the Czech Republic, and also in
Slovakia, Poland, Slovenia prepared an interesting pro-
gramme with a night reading of fairy tales.
This year was dedicated to two important personalities of
our culture Božena Němcová and Jiří Trnka. In the even-
ing we started to create the puppet from socks, because
Jiří Trnka was well-known puppet master. After dinner
pupils informed other children about a life and work of
these personalities. They had
prepared presentation, their
books and other curiosities.
Then teachers prepared a
quiz for children. We read
some fairy tales at night.
Next year you can add to
us.

Talents Discovering
School We have joined to the group of the „Talents
Discovering School”. This title was given us by the
Minister of National Education and it means that our
school discovers, promotes and develops the students who
are the laureates and finalists of the city, province and
national competitions. Our school can be found on Polish
Talents Discovering School map on the internet website
www.ore.edu.pl/odkrywamytalenty. It is worth to
mention that in Elblag, only 6 schools were given such an
award.
Visit in the
Museum On the 12th of April our
students went to the museum
to see the lesson about the
amber. The museum worker
told us about the roots of
amber, and what it can be
used for (game counters,
jewlery). Different tools are
used for grinding the amber.
The most basic ones are a
knife and a file. For sawing the amber we need a string
saw. Other tools are chisel, powered drill, lathe, drill. The
Greeks called amber „Electron”, the Romans: „Succinum,
and the Balts and Slavs called it „Jantar”. It is said that in
Pasłęk (small town near Elbląg, Poland) there is a famous
Amber Room hidden by the Gremans. If you set a fire on
the piece of amber, it will smoke for a while, then it stops
smoking, becomes black and smells badly. But the smell
is very healthy and good for your throat and lungs.
Collection of the Electro
Garbage
Primary School no 4 collected electro garbage between
March 21 and 28. All used, broken and useless electronic
devices were gathered in the front of our building. Electro
garbage thrown away to the city bins or in the bosom of
nature are dangerous to our health and our environment.
Used electic devices contain harmful substances which in
case of the ones stored improperly, reach the ground
water and therefore pollute
Turkish ABC
What connects Turkey and the Trojan Horse? Where do
the tulips come from? How the Turkish coffee should be
prepared? You could find all the answers and many other
interesting information on the exhibition about Turkey in
our school Library. 9
Searching for the Amber
Room with the mayor
One of the tasks we set ourselves in running „The School
on the Amber Track” project was a trip to Pasłęk and visit
in the Teutonic castle where the mysterious Amber
Room (a masterpiece of German artists) was looked for in
1980 . We were welcomed in the Knight Room by the
town mayor, Wiesław Śniecikowski. He is the author of
the book titled “The mysteries of the Castle in Pasłęk,”
which describes
mainly the searching
for the Amber
Room.
CHILDREN´S FESTIVAL
The 2012 Children´s Festival in Pápa organized by
“Zabhegyező Gyerekanimátorok Egyesülete“ promised to
be the best one. The 21st Festival was organized from
4th April to 8th April in Pápa, Hungary.
Some of our students took part in this festival for the
fourth time this year.
On the first day we were very excited because of the
travelling. The bus left at 8 o´clock in the morning. We
have been laughing a lot all the way because we knew we
would have perfect four days. We stopped in Párkány
and picked up one of our ex-students.
After we had arrived at Pápa, we started with an “Atlantis
Game“ in one of the primary schools. There were many
interesting programs prepared for us every day:
interactive games, funny meetings with other students,
visiting the zoo in the nearby town Veszprém, sports,
face painting, dance, magic ... well, it was fantastic.
At nights we were sleeping in sleeping bags in
a classroom of an other school. Our bus driver was a very
helpful man who helped us with the blowing up of the
mattresses. Every evening we were writing a special
diary about our whole day, what we were doing, seeing
and we had to put down our feelings as well.
On Friday, the third day we visited the zoo in Veszprém
where we could see a lot of interesting animals –
monkeys were the best ones. In the afternoon we got two
hours for shopping in a nice shopping center. We all
bought some presents for our relatives.
On Saturday the festival was open – anyone from the
town could come and take part in it, in all the activities.
There were various performances on the stage. Our two
girls were singing so beautifully that both of them got
a standing ovation. They were very happy.
On Sunday we were very sad. We had to say goodbye to
the festival, our friends and organizers.
We arrived home to Rimaszombat at about four in the
afternoon. The good company, meeting new people,
interesting programs, a lot of fun, laughing and delicious
food are the reasons why it is worth taking part in this
festival.
APRIL 11 – HUNGARIAN
POETRY DAY
The Hungarians are the
only nation who
commemorate their
national poetry on April
11 every year. In 1905
Attila József one of the
most famous poets of the
20th century was born on
this day.
Our school invites a
contemporary poet or
poets for a talk with the
students every year. This year Zoltán Szászi from
Rimaszombat and Boglárka Rácz from Fülek
commemorated the literature. They were reading from
Sándor Márai´s works.
EARTH
DAY AT
OUR
SCHOOL
On Earth Day April 22 various events are held all over
the world to increase the appreciation of the Earth's natu-
ral environment. This day is celebrated in more than 175
countries.
Our school also celebrated this day on April 23. All the
students took part in it. We have been studying till 1 pm
and we went to the school ground in the afternoon. We
took out our plants from the classrooms and corridors and
replanted them outside. After we had watered them, we
took all the pot plants back to school to their original
places. Both teachers and students were very satisfied.
