From the Principal
Respect for All
The events on Friday in Christchurch
highlight for us all the important need to
have respect and tolerance for each other
regardless of our religion and background.
There are many things I love about working
at LEPS, but the most important to me is
that is the fact that even though our
families speak over twenty different
languages, have had a range of different
upbringings, recognise and celebrate
different religions, when we are at LEPS we
are a ‘family’ who care for each other and
want the best for each other. It is important
that we all keep this in mind during these
troubled times in the world.
I encourage parents to limit their children’s
access to social media and news
broadcasts during this time. Images today
are very graphic and can have a
detrimental effect on a young person’s
mind and how they feel about themselves
and the world in which we live. If you are
concerned about your child and how they
are coping with these events, please speak
to your family doctor.
5/6 Scientists
Our grade 5/6s have been very lucky to
have been able to work the talented team
of scientists from Gene Technology Access
Centre (GTAC) in the last few weeks. These
sessions allow our students to use science
to solve problems and also get to use
fabulous equipment very few schools have
access to. As part of the work with the
GTAC team, our 5/6s will be making a visit
to the GTAC Centre in Parkville to continue
their science investigations. Many people
are predicting that having good scientific
skills is a way to ensure employment
success in the future. Who knows, one of
our 5/6s may go on to become a world
renowned scientist who discovers a cure of
cancer. Now that would be cool!
Traffic Congestion in Cleveland Street
I was speaking to the representatives from
Whittlesea Council this week after a
complaint was made by a concerned
parent about the safety of the students
who use the Cleveland Street crossing.
They will be conducting a survey on the
number of children using the crossing and
the number of vehicles using the street to
see if we are eligible to access a crossing
supervisor.
While I have noticed a small improvement
in the behaviour of some parents who park
at the front of the school, we still have work
to do. Council has said they will be sending
parking inspectors to the area to fine any
drivers not following the road rules in the
area. I recommend everyone pays attention
to the road signs and parks in the correct
areas if you want to avoid a costly parking
fine.
Easter Raffle
Last week we sent
home a note asking for
a donation for the
Easter raffle. It is our
first fundraiser for the
year and if every family
were to donate just
one Easter egg or
bunny, we would have
an impressive number of raffle prizes. All
the money raised will go towards buying
resources for our students. One of our
current projects is to increase the number
of books in each classroom. Our aim is to
have over 300 books in each classroom for
students to read and enjoy.
Only two and a half weeks of school left for
the term so let’s make every day
AWESOME!

Pokémon
Last week at OSHC, the children and I were very busy having fun with Pokémon. We played with our super cool
Pokémon chips (game), looked at fancy books from our bookshelf, coloured in our favourite characters and even
designed our OWN Pokémon with awesome skills and powers. We even tried very tricky Pikachu Origami.
We had our construction hat on all week. We designed our own magical marvellous wands and designed our first
OSHC V8 car with pedals using a recycled box, plus we created a home for owls and other cool things using
recycled cereal boxes.
The sun was out and about too. Yay! The children and I were super active playing our favourite activities outside
including soccer, cricket and Doctor War Ball. We practised our bouncing counting to 100 (Thanks Zoe), and
looked for a ball in the playground, our treasure! Ah-hoy!
