IncontinuitywithallpreviousAMIhistoryandperspectives,theExecutiveCommitteeofAMI
developedanewvisionfor2018–2021,called“ExpandingCircles”.
ThebasicgoalofthisvisionistohelpandsupportCatholicmilitarymenandwomenandtheir
familiestolivetheirfaithwellwithinthemilitarycontextandbyusingthenewmethodsof
communicationavailabletodaytoallandapplicableespeciallytoouryoungerdelegates.
Anotherimportantgoalisalsotoadviceatastrategiclevelontopicsdealingwithpeaceandjustice,
fromaprofessionalandCatholicmilitaryinformed,pointofview.
StrategiccommunicationshelpsAMItoshareaclearlydefinedmessagewitheveryoneinvolvedwith
AMI--internallyandexternally.Itisanintentionalprocessthatlooksatwhateachaudiencewithin
thegroupneedstohearfromus.Notonlyshouldouraudiencestayinformed,butalsostayengaged
aswell.

Todefineourmessage
ThereneedstobeaclearlydefinedmessagethatwewanttosendasAMI.OurfocusisinformationexchangeandencouragementinthefaithoftheindividualCatholicsoldier.Thisexpandsalsotothesoldier’sfamily,tomilitaryassociations,totheMilitarychaplains,toMilitaryOrdinariates,governmentalorganizations,internationalorganizationsandVaticanoffices,asneededandrequested.
Butwhateverourmessageis,wemustkeepitsimple.
Firstofall,whoarewe?
Catholicmilitarypersonnelof10countriesfoundedAMIin1965inSantiagodeCompostela,Spain.
TheyfelttheneedforameansofdisseminatingandputtingintopracticetheidealsofCatholic
militarypersonnelbothinthearmedforcesandinpubliclife,encouragingallthosedevotedto
servingtheirhomelandanddoingtheirdutyinamannerthatwilltrulyhelptobringpeace.AMIis
officiallyrecognisedbytheHolySeeasaCatholicInternationalLayOrganisation.AMIisofficially
registeredasaNonGovernmentalOrganization(NGO)andisamemberoftheForumofCatholic
InspiredNGO’s.
AMIpurposesare:
a. TopromoteatnationalandinternationalleveltheaffirmationofaChristianvisionofmilitary
lifeandofthevaluesthatcharacterizethisvision.
b. Topromoteandsupportinternationalunderstandingandcooperation,asacontributionto
strengtheningpeaceintheworld.
c. Tostudytogether,inthelightoftheGospelandtheteachingsoftheChurch,thespiritual,
moralandsocialproblemspeculiartothemilitarysphere.
d. Tokeepanopenmindtowardsecumenicalwork.
e. TomakeknowntheactivitiesofAMIincountriesortoassociationsandorganizationswhoare
notyetmembers.
