Message from PTSA President
Greetings Scorpion Families! As I write my last PTSA President newsletter message, words cannot express the gratitude I have for the parents, teachers, staff, students and community members for their cooperative spirit, generosity, continuous support, dedication, and willingness to help strengthen our PTSA. Initiating change was our biggest challenge over the last two years. Our greatest obstacle was to improve the perceptions that parents had about our PTSA. We changed our internal structure to run our organization effectively. We changed the culture of our PTSA, focusing on helping our parents by infusing useful information into each meeting. We updated our internal records and procedures to become compliant with IRS, California PTA and other regulations. Our Officers and Committee Chairs bravely made creative, cost effective changes to our events and programs. The most important change of all is, together, we created a warm, inviting PTSA evidenced by new parents who are now active, engaged PTSA members. The future of our PTSA is bright and the incoming Executive Board led by Kim Dawson, our President-elect, is a very special group of parents and ACHS staff who will surely take our PTSA to the next level. I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with this team next year. I hope you will join us. What I lacked in PTSA leadership experience, I compensated by pouring love into everything I did and never losing sight of the goal to make our PTSA stronger for the future. As I waded through all the ebbs and flows, I have learned so much, have grown as a person and am better prepared to face life’s challenges. Thank you for giving me this wonderful, life-changing opportunity to serve as your PTSA President for the past two years. Have a wonderful, safe summer! Jane Kotake

PTSA IN THE NEWS

The Class of 2016 held the 2nd annual Scorpion 9-Hole Shootout on April 17th at Sterling Hills Golf Club. It was a impressive success! Over 100 people attended the tournament/dinner, with Principal Glenn Lipman and teacher Scott Cline leading the way on the course! The event raised in excess of $15,000 for the class. Well done! Thank you to all who contributed their time, donations and talents. Much appreciation to all who attended and supported the event. Congratulations to 2016 Class President Bobby Stern and the class cabinet: Des Clancy, Shivani Govil, Ashley Fontanille & Steven Marin. A huge thank you to Lori Pristera, class of 2016 advisor. It was a true team effort - a wonderful example of the collaboration of students, parents, administra-tion, teachers, PTSA and community leaders. 2016 Class Cabinet members solicited donations from the community, met with sponsors and business leaders to pick up sponsorships, ran the program that even-ing and decorated the venue. Their hard work paid off. The students were able to gain important skills and knowledge while putting on a great event. Thank you the many parents who volunteered that week and that day....again, well done Class of 2016!
