•In 1606, King James I gave permission to the Virginia Company of London to try a colony.
-Joint-stock company-business in which investors pool their wealth in order to turn profit (shares)
•Christopher Newport led the three ships, Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery to Jamestown.
