What is poverty?
Poverty is not only material deprivation, but also and more importantly the deprivation of opportunities for a good life.

What causes poverty?
Christian Aid believes that at poverty’s core
lies the misuse of power; by unequal power
relations within and among countries, and
within and among groups and individuals.
Poverty is disempowerment, and the
injustices that result.

How might poverty be overcome?
Empowerment – by allowing fundamental, effective choices about economic, social, personal and political aspects of a life – is freedom from poverty.
