Take Action to Stop the MTS!

It’s been almost five years since New York City first obtained a permit from New York State to build

and operate the Marine Transfer Station at East 91st Street. The community has changed drastically

since then:

After Superstorm Sandy, the Federal Emergency Management Administration(FEMA) proposed new flood regulations for waterfront infrastructure projects

like the MTS, which the City wants to build at almost six feet below the new

federal guidelines

Thousands of new residents have moved to the area and significant newconstruction is occurring

Five new schools have opened or are opening new buildings within ten blocksof the MTS site

The advent of Select Bus Service has resulted in the designation of a permanent dedicated bus lane on First Avenue, with one on Second Avenue to

follow

The City has constructed a permanent dedicated bicycle lane on First Avenue, with one on Second Avenue to follow

Write to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and urge it to solicit public

comment on the City’s permit renewal application, hold a public hearing, and conduct acomprehensive review of the MTS’s compliance with new FEMA flood regulations and of the major

changes in the community around the MTS site since the City’s permit was first issued five years

ago.
