006. 10th December 2012
Christmas is in the air!
Clifton High is bursting at the seams with yuletide events and activities. From superb productions of The Sleepy
Shepherd and Babushka, to after-school wreath making with the Parents’ Association, everyone is getting involved.
The Christmas Fair was a great success and trees and decorations are appearing across the School - there is SO
much going on that we are going to bring you a special Christmas edition of Clifton Highlights at the end of term,
packed with pictures and news of all the exciting happenings; guaranteed to get you in the Christmas spirit!
Bulletin
Barney Picton from Year 7
has been interviewed by
BBC Radio Wales after
appearing in a film which
was shown at the Newport
International Film Festival.
Well done, Barney!
The Foundation Stage
and Key Stage 1 children
put on an amazing show
for the Senior Lunch Club
at Christchurch. It was a
wonderful ending to their
Christmas party - well
done to everyone.
Oliver Valentine from Y9
has done brilliantly in
hockey recently having
been selected to go
forward to JAC following
the JDC trials for U14
boys - congratulations!

More congratulations are
due to Isabelle Thorpe

La Tasca was
the setting for
an exciting
trip for one Y9
class to see
how paella is
cooked and practice their Spanish
last week. They got to sample
delicious tapas while they learned
lots of new Spanish words. There
was even a visit from Dr Neill!
Well done to
Charlotte
Gardner for her
recent successes
in tennis. After
winning at the
regional level Charlotte will be
playing in the National David Lloyd
U10 tennis final in London on 16th
December. Good luck, Charlotte!
Reception 2
recently worked
together to make
a fantastic
Christmas cake
mixture in the
school kitchens with Miss Wiltshire.
The mixture was baked in individual
tins so that everyone could have their
own cake to decorate and take home
for Christmas. Delicious!
Christmas badges for sale!
The craft club have been busy
making Christmas pin badges, cards
and brooches which are available
to purchase in the School Office.
They would make a lovely stocking
filler and are a bargain at £1.00! All
profits go to a local women’s
refuge.
Fundraising
Many thanks to all parents who
contributed to the retiring
collections at The Sleepy Shepherd
and Babushka last week who
helped to raise a brilliant £260.34
for the Wallace and Gromit Grand
Appeal and £271.25 for our link
school in Mozambique.

CHS played host
to the Anchor
Society for
Christmas Lunch
last week. Our
visitors enjoyed
music and singing from our Sixth Form
before they joined the rest of the
school in the Dining Room for turkey
and all the trimmings.
Following the
recent county
hockey trials
from JDC to JAC
we are thrilled
that no fewer
than twelve Clifton High girls have got
through to the county squads so far.
Well done to everyone who got
through - read more on the web soon
about the girls’ experience.
Tasha West is the first pupil at Clifton High and one of the first in Bristol to complete her Bronze Duke of
Edinburgh Award online. She completed it to a very high standard, attaching many photos and videos as evidence for all four sections. Well done, Tasha!
German Christmas Markets trip to Cologne and Aachen
Reminder to parents of pupils going on this trip next weekend: please meet at 5.30am at the school gates on Saturday 15th December, ready for a 6am departure.
Many thanks to all those parents who have handed in passports and EHIC cards for their children already. If there are any items outstanding, please hand them in to the School Office for Mrs Harris as soon as possible.

Breaking News! Rugby boys finish the season on a high…
On Saturday, the Year 9 and 10 boys played their final rugby fixture of the season against Bristol Cathedral School at Coombe Dingle.
Tries from Toby Meads, Gabriel Gonzalez, Enric Ventura Ripoll and Jack Alford, plus conversions from Alex Minter-Swannell secured victory in a thrilling match. The end result: CHS beat Cathedral by 24 points to 19!
The boys finish the season on a superb high as this weekend’s victory follows two successive wins against Clifton College last week.
Well done to all the boys who played and who have taken part in fixtures this season. You have all done us proud - here’s to plenty more wins next year!
