NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES
Newspaper is one of the oldest media. Newspapers are mainly concentrated on
daily, fast-moving events. From the newspapers we learn about the latest news and
occasions in our country or city, read various forecasts and announcements.
Newspapers are issued in large circulations and are targeted for a wide range of
people. They play a major role in the formation of a public opinion.
Newspapers can be daily or weekly. Daily publications are available in the big
cities, weekly are published in small areas. Daily papers can be morning and
evening, they are mostly focused on local affairs.
From magazines we learn new information, find a lot of useful tips and recipes,
read various articles and reviews. Magazines are very different - technical, sports,
specialized, for young people, etc. Many magazines have an entertainment section
with poems, crossword puzzles, jokes, pictures. Magazines are usually issued
weekly or monthly. There are also quarterly issues.
Newspapers and magazines can be purchased at newsstands, at the places of sales
of printed products, at supermarkets and shopping malls. If we wish we can
subscribe to our favorite magazine or newspaper. In this case, new issues of the
edition will be delivered to our homes by postal service.
There are also free newspapers which are distributed in public places to all
interested people.
The advantage of newspapers and magazines is the ease and convenience of their
use. We can store periodicals for any period of time, re-read them when we need it,
share them with our friends or neighbors. We also can cut out the necessary article
from the read newspaper or magazine. For example, some people cut out and keep
various recipes, tips, crossword puzzles, etc. There are also people who collect all
editions of a particular periodical, it is their hobby.
Newspapers and magazines are important sources of information. I think that a
person should regularly read periodicals to be always aware of what is happening in
his city and country.
