Scripture Corner:
First Reading: Jeremiah 20:7-9 In this particularly poetic passage, Jeremiah complains that while teaching the Lord’s word, he is subjected to insults and derision. He determines to remain silent, but he cannot because the desire to speak the Lord’s name is “like a fire burning in my heart.”
Second Reading: Romans 12:1-2 Paul tells the Christians to make sacrifices to avoid the trappings of the times, and to do God’s will. Gospel: Matthew 16:21-27 Jesus tries to make his disciples realize that by following him, they will endure suffering, degradation, and death. He tells them that they must deny themselves and take up the cross in order to be his disciples.
Please be advised that on Sunday, September 10th, our neighbors in the Presbyterian Church will be hosting a special event for their members. There may be additional cars parked in the area of Valley Road, especially affecting our later Sunday morning Masses, so please plan accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation!

Dear Friends in the Lord, Next Sunday, September 10th, the archdiocese will be taking up the collection for both Catholic Home Missions and the Church in Latin America. For more than half a century the collection for the Church in Latin America has been a sign of solidarity of the Church in the United States with the Church in Latin America and the Caribbean. For people living in these regions, barriers to practicing the faith include lack of resources, shortages of pastoral agents, and poor infra-structures that make relatively simple things like partici-pating in weekly Mass difficult. Your support of this Collection helps to share the faith with those who long to experience the Lord’s mercy within strong faith commu-nities. The Catholic Home Mission Appeal supports the diocese here in our own country to make ends meet and to serve all the needs of their parishioners. It is through your gen-erosity that many churches are able to keep their doors open and provide essential pastoral services. Your support of this collection makes a difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters right here in the United States, as well as the families in Latin America and the Caribbean. Please be as generous as your means will allow.
With prayerful best wishes I am, Faithfully in Christ, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan Archbishop of New York
My soul is thirsting for you,
O Lord my God….

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
