Bus routes and major roads were kept clear, but other roads that were supposed to be gritted were left struggling. The snow on many roads turned to solid ice, making it even more difficult for residents to get out and about. Downham Councillor, Duwayne Brooks, said, “The Council don’t seem to have learned from the gritting chaos last winter, despite their promises. All they had to do was deliver grit to local roads in time. Council street cleaners would then have been able to start gritting as soon as the snow settled, not one week later.” Councillor Brooks has asked the Council for assurances that grit will be provided on time in the event of more snow. from Downham Councillors Duwayne Brooks, Jenni Clutten and Julia Fletcher Cllr. Julia Fletcher met the Chief Executive of Millwall Football Club to discuss complaints she received from residents of Calmont Road about a number of issues, including parking and leaves from trees within the perimeter of Millwall's training ground blocking the pavement.  He agreed the Club would take steps to address these problems. Following a tour of the Ravensbourne Estate with local residents Cllr. Julia Fletcher wrote to Phoenix Community Housing to raise over 20 points of concern, including damaged railings, flooring and doors. Phoenix have now agreed to sort these issues out as soon as possible. Millwall training ground Ravensbourne issues Lib Dems secure £3.8 million for poorest pupils in Lewisham Election promise of £2.5 billion ‘Pupil Premium’ delivered The Liberal Democrats have secured almost £4 million for the poorest pupils in Lewisham. The new pupil premium, a central Lib Dem election pledge, will target extra cash at pupils from poorer backgrounds. Downham councillor, and school governor, Julia Fletcher said, “This additional money will make a huge difference to schools in Lewisham. The new pupil premium will help schools cut class sizes so that children can get the support they need.” The pupil premium will give schools extra money based on the number of children on free school meals. The more children on free school meals, the more additional funding their school will receive. The Lib Dems have also announced extra funding for childcare and extra support to help less well off students go to university.

Plastics recycling campaignLewisham has the lowest

recycling rate in thecountry, according torecent figures released.

Local Liberal Democratshave been calling on the Labour run

Council to let residents recycle a widerrange of plastics rather than justbottles.
