excellence.
Parents, we appreciate you
and applaud all of the effort and
support that you give our school.
Without you, we could not do what
we do and love. It is a blessing to
serve the needs of our boys and
girls.
Additionally, we recently

this accomplishment and we thank
you!
As we round up the year and
prepare for standardized testing,
please continue to support our
efforts. We are asking that you
please make sure your children
are reading nightly, completing
homework assignments, and
getting a good night’s rest. All of
these factors affect your child’s
academic performance throughout
the day.
In closing, Spring Break is around
the corner. We look forward to
our students enjoying their break.
However, we want everyone to be

jump rope party where they
jumped rope and listened to
music. A special thanks goes
out to Mrs. Raley’s 2nd grade
class for raising the most
money as a class, and to
Dedrique Shivers for raising
the most money as an
individual. Great job to

Kindergarten has been
enjoying an author study of
Kevin Henkes. They have been
learning about character
traits, and how characters
change and develop throughout
a story. They have been using
text to support their
character descriptions. We
are so proud of the writing
they have done in conjunction
with this author study lesson.
First graders love an
interactive read-aloud!
They are digging deeper
into the text with the
strategy “Say, Mean,
Matter” to help them
write and think about the
text. This strategy also
allows them to have rich
conversations about the
text being read. Keep up
the good work first grade!

The Second Graders are Problem Solvers
Newcomer, Ms. Crystal
Jackson is getting her boys
and girls excited about
learning with the use of
puppets! On March 14th
2019, Mrs. Jackson’s
second grade class held a
puppet show to demonstrate
Story Structure. With this
lesson the students had to
learn that a narrative story
must have a beginning,
middle and end. The
Second Grade Puts on a Puppet Show
students worked in small
groups to first write their own
creative story, and then
presented them with a puppet
that demonstrated the
characters in their story. The
student’s held their puppet
show in the classroom in front
of each other and a few
adults including our principal,
Mrs. Williams. The students
were excited about having an
audience, and they did very
well on their presentations!
Officer Duckson also attended
the performance.
Way to go Ms. Jackson and
students!!!
Dr. Colter’s second grade
students are working with
their partners or team
members to solve real-
world/story problems involving
dollar bills using the $ symbol.
The students also used
quarters, dimes, nickels, and
pennies. Learning this skill is
very important in preparing our
youngsters for the real world!

Mrs. Raley’s second grade class is
learning about measurement with the
use of gummy worms.
Each student measured their gummy
worms with their ruler and recorded
their measurement.
Next, the students stretched their
gummy worm as far as they could
without breaking the worm. Students
recorded their measurement.
Last, each student answered this
question, "What is the difference in
length between the original and
stretched gummy worm?” This data
was recorded. The students discussed
the different results with the class
On Tuesday, March 12, 2019
our 4th grade students
embarked on an educational
trip to the S.C. State
Museum. The students were
able to see many examples of
the topics that were discussed
in the classroom. The topics
were about historical replicas
of Native American villages,
colonial schoolrooms, animal
fossils, and a NASA
telescope. Our students
demonstrated exemplary
behavior and represented
Dover in an outstanding
manner! All in all, it was an
awesome Field Study. This
event was sponsored by Mrs.
Bonaparte, our guidance
counselor.

Annual Fifth Grade Outstanding
Character Recognition Program,
Friday, February 1st, 2019. Noah
Coleman was recognized for his essay
on the character word: Empathy.
WLTX news anchor Whitney Sullivan
was the keynote speaker. Our
students had a blast! Our literacy
coach Mrs. Moorer, and Ms. Wright,
5th grade math and science teacher
worked on the student’ presentation.
Mrs. Gamble, 5th grade Ela and
social studies teacher accompanied
Noah on the gym floor with the
other awardees. We thank the
parents that also accompanied the

Fifth Graders Convert Metric Measurement
Ms. Wright’s fifth grade math
students are working on
converting metric measurements.
Students completed measurement
stations where they had to find
the capacity, weight and length
of various objects. Once
students found the
measurements, they were to
convert each measurement into a
unit of their choice. For example
