Middle and High school teachers may partici-pate in Professional Learning in June and July.

◊ All training will be held at the CCI from 8:00-4:00. ◊ Stipends will be paid at $20 per hour for seven hours of

K-2 Balanced Literacy: Shared Reading Using research-tested strategies, participants will learn how and why shared reading is an essential component for the reading foundational standards. Participants will learn teach-er-friendly strategies for getting the most out of shared reading and successfully imple-menting the practice into their classroom.

◊ Grades K-2◊ June 11 or June 24 (content is the same, select either date)◊ $100 stipend

K-2 Balanced Literacy: Formative AssessmentGuided reading instruction should be data driven. Participants learn how to quickly and accurately assess readers for instruction. Using the DRA as an example, participants will leave with essential knowledge to begin using formative assessment in their classrooms, analyze and make instructional decisions about what to next with each reader.

◊ Grades K-2◊ June 6 & 7 or June 12 & 13 ◊ $200 stipend (total) ◊ Two day workshop

Common Core Reading Standards: Informational Text in an Evidence Based Classroom, 6-12

What are the reading standards? How do I easily assess students? How do I integrate social studies and reading? How do I build an evidence based class-room? Participants leave with answers to each of these questions, along with ready-to-go graphic organizers, suggested book lists, and quick and easy for-mative assessments for the Common Core middle school reading standards.

Edmodo & LiteracyThis hands-on workshop provides participants with tools, resources, and practice developing grade specifi c, Common Core aligned lessons and activi-ties using the Edmodo platform.

Integrate reading and the 5E method of science instruction

◊ Grades K-2: July 24th◊ Grades 3-5: July 25th◊ $50 stipend plus books valued at $35

STEM & Science LiteracySponsored through GYSTC

Explore STEM, Next Generation Science Standards, and science literacy through the lens of an active learner. Participants will make and take away activities easily implemented in the classroom.

◊ Grades 6-8 ◊ June 6th◊ $100 stipend

Classroom Unsquared: Think Outside the Box with Problem-Based Learning

Real-world problems will be explored and participants will take home ready-to-use resources. Appropriate for all 6-12 science teachers but physical science, earth science, and physics will provide the content standards for the real life scenarios.

◊ Grades 6-12◊ June 17th & 18th◊ $150 stipend and lots of on-line access to resources

Science Problem SolvingEnhance problem based learning and science inquiry

◊ Grades K-5◊ July 8-12 on the UWG campus (register through UWG) ◊ $500 stipend and lots of resources

Science Project ExplorationProblem based learning and inquiry experiences to mentor and supervise science fair projects.

Technology Opportunities

The ActivMath Classroom In this course, math teachers will discuss methods for making their Math classroom more interactive. We will discuss the use of ActivInspire, Learner Response System, teaching Math Concepts/Skills, Math Methods, STEM and how to implement the NEW Common Core.

◊ Prerequisites: Completed an ActivInspire/Promethean Level 1 course. ◊ Date: Monday, June 10th, 2013, 8:00 am -12:00pm

The ActivLanguage Arts Classroom In the course, ELA teachers will benefi t from “Talking Language Arts.” Teachers will be able to apply their ELA curriculum into a 21st century classroom by combining the ideas of phonics, literature, grammar, and literacy through viewing examples of these ideas and creating sample pages.

◊ Prerequisites: Completed an ActivInspire/Promethean Level 1 course. ◊ Monday, June 10th, 2013, 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

The ActivScience Classroom In the course, Science teachers will benefi t from “Talking Science.” Teachers will be better able to apply their Science curriculum into a 21st century classroom by combin-ing the ideas of Science Processing Skills, STEM, and Common Core through viewing examples of these ideas and creating sample pages.

The ActivSocial Studies Classroom In the course, Social Studies teachers will benefi t from “Talking History.” Teachers will be able to apply their Social Studies curriculum into a 21st century classroom by com-bining the ideas of history, geography and sociology current events through viewing examples of these ideas and creating sample pages.

Learner Response System - Beyond the Questions So, you know how to use the Question Manager and Express Poll in ActivInspire. What’s next? What else can these Learner Response System devices do? In this course, we will discuss assigning students to specifi c devices, setting up groups for group work and competition, creating questions using higher order thinking questions, and a variety of different question methods.
