    Original image:

I open the image of my uncle Simon into Photoshop

Next step was to get rid of the background and improve the lightening. So I cut out the parts I didnt need (using the polygonal lasso tool) Then wentabout adjusting the contrast Auto contrast selection:

Now the brightness and contrast needed to be edited:

I decided I wanted to investigate how I could edit the images to make them fitwith article page nicely. Therefore I played around with the gradients:

So I then had to choose which one Id want as the dominant image in myarticle page. I decided to use the Black and White image:

Now to insert all work into the Indesign double page spread:

For this I opened up my plain document and inserted a gradient backgroundof grey-to-dark grey-to-black (moving horizontally from left to right).

I then inserted my first, most dominant image of the black and white edited

Simon (Long shot) on the whole left hand sheet of the double page and madesure I stretched the image to fit the page and also ensuring I didnt distort theimage or chop out any bits I wanted to keep in the image (such as the twospeakers either side of him)

Next was the positioning of the article title and the caption underneath which Iimported from Photoshop. I resized it and moved them to their places. Iensure they were in the bright red to contrast with the other colours on thepage and made it big to stand out.

Finally, I needed to place the 4 photographs down the centre of the page. Butfirst I drew 4 equal slanted rectangles and made a pattern which played withthe overall magazine colour scheme: Black-Red-Black-Red (going from top tothe bottom). Then, one by one, I placed each image onto each rectangle. Itried to make sure the effects corresponded with the order0 therefore, the 2images which were dominantly filled with black and white lighting I placed onthe black frames and the images with the orangey yellow lightening I placedon the red frames. (The red frames help break the black and grey theme, andalso work alongside the red title)After they were all positioned, I added finishing touches by adding strokes, bevel and emboss, and various other effects to each photograph to add a bit

of texture and make them look a bit more 3D than boring flat:

Little yet vital (page numbers and credits caption):

For the credit caption, I just inserted a small textbox in the bottom right handcorner of the main image of SiGuy and wrote down the photographers namealong with the stylists name.To make the page numbers, I open my magazine masthead into Photoshop

and copied the underground symbol that I made and then pasted in the pagesnumbers: 14and 15.

Then it was just a matter of dragging and resizing. Also, I added effects to theplain, thin numbers. This is where I added stroke, colour overlay and othereffects to ensure that the page numbers could be seen easily.

Now time to just paste in the writing:

Each time Siguy was quoted saying something, I changed the colour to black. As I got to the right hand side, I had to edit the gradients of the black to makeit turn to dark grey in order for the colour to show on top of the background:

    Finally insert the quote

The final step was to insert the quote which I had made previously inPhotoshop:
