Page 2: Double Page Spread

Camp rock1. It is aimed at younger teenagers but also appeals to slightly

older adolescence mainly the female population between ages 10yrs to 16yrs. "Come To Camp Rock" this is the title of the double page spread in The Top Of The Pops magazine. the title is very bold and colourful it doesn’t stick to the norm of just one set colour is uses two which are then made a few shades darker on the “ROCK”, these colours were used because they are bold and appeal to younger peoples attention,

2. There is an image of a boy band on the right hand side which is a full shot image, this is what will appeal to the young reader as it has a good looking band on it which they can relate to and also because of the links to things similar e.g. high school musical it is a tendency for younger people to follow.

• The bright colours which are promoted through the whole piece not just sections will grab the young readers attention, making them want to buy the magazine. However the colours are mainly feminine but with the added use of blue this could also be a point of which they are trying to aim at the young male population.

• The title "Come To Camp Rock" also attracts the young readers as it has a childish font it isn’t harsh on the page it looks good and it is also separated over the two pages it isn’t just squashed on to the one page.

• The house style of the contents page is very bright, with a contrast of the full body image which is very dark.

• I liked the layout of this contents page because everything that has been put on to this page is aimed at a younger generation, this is defined by the main use of images and the images are then pushed further with the text that links to each individual piece.

Double page spread• The one thing that caught my eye on this piece was the use of

colour for the text it sets the colour theme for the rest of the piece e.g. what the band are wearing is the same colour as what the text is, simple but very effective.

• A plain background with the text layered on top of it brings the text out more boldly and nothing is distracting it. Not only this but it works with the photo as well even with the subjects that have been faded into the back ground.

• Mostly all of the text used is black on the light back ground, however the quote section layered just in the middle of the writing is in a black background with white text this is to draw the readers attention to this little bit of information which is probably the main point about the article.

• Some pieces of text are slightly bolder than the rest this is to high light certain important pieces, this means that the reader will take more notice to what it says if it sticks out than what they would if it wasn’t as bold, however not all the text is clear on this piece there is a section of text that is just below the bold main piece of text, it is visually harder to see this could be for effect making the reader want to read it more but in some circumstances could get ignored.

• Something that has been made clearer is the use of the image it is a full shot, but the main band member is in a clean clear composition, and the others are faded out slightly against the background, this is obviously done by photoshop, in the way that they have layered it onto the page.

Double page spread• The colours used are black, white and orange. The black is used as it is

one of kerrang’s house colours same with white. These two colours are the main colours that appeal to their target audience. The orange is used to make the text stand out, however it isn’t majorly bold it is just the use of colour contrasts. White is used for further detail to the piece, and this looks just as effective as the orange against the contrasted back ground.

• It’s in your face, the colour scheme is quite similar, the pose the band pushes it making it in your face and clear what the article is about, the image is a full shot which defines the genre because of what the individuals are wearing, the theme of the page is very dark and this gives a gothic/rock appeal.

• This double page spread is laid out in several different text boxes, each one has a connection point to a different member from the band. Each text box has the same questions in it with the band giving their own opinion from there own point of view. The image takes up the whole page with the text overlaying it. The readers of this particular genre of magazine are attracted to the look of the band and their image as a hardcore rock band, and because of the overall interest means that they can then relate more closely to the text.

• The use of the bold text in the middle is not only the statement maker but it is also the focal point this is down to the font used and also the colour, I think it looks very good and with the use of the lines below and above it creates a striking interest, the reason the colour looks good though is because of the contrast with back ground had they used a different colour it wouldn’t have looked half as good.
