The film follows a young lady called Laura, who goes to a sign language centre to seek help after having a tragic accident which results in her becoming deaf. She is still coming to terms with her accident and is nervous about going to see the teacher at the centre. Once they begin talking, Laura relaxes and tells the teacher about the night that altered her life for ever. The film flashbacks to show Laura at a bar with her friends

end of the film, we return to present day and see Laura learning her first sign. ‘Once Heard’ is a film aimed to make an impact on audiences and make people more aware of the difficulties deaf people face in their life, particularly in communicating and with social situations. Young audiences can especially relate to Laura’s character as she goes on a night out, that unfortunately ends bad. It warns people to be more careful when they go out.

The film uses quick cuts and slick editing to keep the story going. It has a very real feel to it, as its set in believable and authentic locations. The actors give convincing, raw performances that portray the emotions their character would feel, successfully to the audience.

Overall this a brilliant educational short, it is mainly going to be shown in educational environments but will also be put onto YouTube so other people can access it. DON’T MISS IT!
