Lesson-Activity Title: Double Exposure Self- Portrait Grade: 6 th - 8 th Name: Marissa Schaeffer Time: 60mins, 5 days Objective: To introduce Photoshop Elements. Students will understand how to use tools in Photoshop Elements. Students will comprehend what a double exposure is in photography. Students will develop a creative concept and take pictures for a double exposure. Aesthetics, Art Criticism, Art History: A double exposure is taking two different pictures and combining them together. In analog photography double exposures could occur on the film. This occurred by the film not being advanced after taking a picture. People ended up liking the look and the effect of this accident. Now with the use of the computer and Photoshop we can create these creative images. Standard: 1.3 Performance: All students will synthesize those skills, media, methods, and technologies appropriate to creating, performing, and /or presenting works of art in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. 1.3.8.D.6: Synthesize the physical properties, processes, and techniques for visual communication in multiple art media (including digital media), and apply this knowledge to the creation of original artworks.

PlanningDay 1:

1. Introduction on Photoshop Elements.2. Students will practice using tools and techniques.3. Introduction on double exposure and concept of the project. 4. Students will brainstorm 3 or 4 ideas for the project.5. Homework: Take pictures at home if students have camera or cellphone. Students that

do not have a camera or cellphone can either borrow a camera to take home or can take

photos in school. Students need to take pictures for the photo that is going to be blended into the self-portrait. Examples: Plants, flowers, trees, buildings, textures, and other objects.

Day 2:1. Review double exposure.2. Students will edit photos.3. Students will pick a partner and work on taking a self- portrait pictures.

Day 3: 1. Demonstration on how to create a double exposure self- portrait on Photoshop Elements.2. Students will start creating their double exposure.

Day 4:1. Review the steps for the project.2. Continue work.

Day 5: 1. Continue work. 2. Touch ups. 3. Self- assessment.

Adaptations/adjusting activities: Students will have a worksheet of the steps for Photoshop Element. For students that are absent or need something else to look at, teacher was a QuickTime video on the steps for the project. If some students are behind I will give the class a catch up day. Students that are done can work on scavenger hunt. If students cannot complete work on catch up day they will have extra time to work on their work after the next lesson and discussion.

Modifications for Students w. Learning Disabilities: Student will receive more time if needed to complete work. Teacher will communicate with aid and provide step-by-step help throughout project. Teacher will provide worksheet of steps or the video.
