Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing

Purpose to prevent accidents Applies to operators of CMVs Testing must be done by Part 40 Some tests may be waived by the

state

Commercial Motor Vehicle Screening Tests Confirmation Tests Alcohol Concentration Controlled Substances Disabling Damage Safety Sensitive Functions

Controlled Substances Marijuana Amphetamines Cocaine Opiates Phencyclidine All others not allowed to be tested

for DOT compliance Employees must be notified

Prohibited Conduct Alcohol Concentration greater than

0.04 No on-duty use of alcohol No pre-duty consumption of

alcohol for 4 hours No post-accident use of alcohol for

8 hours after an accident Refusal to take test No use of controlled substances No work if test positive.
