dos statement of interest
TRANSCRIPT
As a Korean adoptee I've been heavily involved in cross-cultural interactions.
I've done this through my international experiences in dancing, community service,
study abroad, and diversity activities. Through ASIA Inc. I’ve participated in an
exchange program raising awareness of Korean adoption in Seoul. I’ve also
mentored, fund raised, and helped out in many other aspects to benefit the Korean
Adoptee community in America and abroad. My community service work has
spanned several countries and continents helping locals in Peru, the Galapagos
Islands, and Korea to improve their communities. While studying abroad in South
Korea I was able to use my interest in dance to perform and interact with Koreans
and foreigners from around the world. I was able to share my culture and gain new
insights into different cultural perspectives and outlooks. In high school I revived
the Upper School Diversity Committee to address racial tensions at Sandy Spring
Friends School and help facilitate discussions among the student body about
diversity. In my current job, overseeing an autistic man has widened my knowledge
and appreciation for people across the functioning spectrum and given me more
empathy for difference in this world. Working with individuals and across the
community on these issues has been very rewarding.
My work has led to my strong interest in bringing my skill set to a larger
diplomatic scale and platform. My goal for this job is to employ my skills and
experience to further American interests through intelligence analysis and create an
impact through public service.
