Dos and Don’ts for a Great Summer Vacation
Summer is here and you’re doing your best to enjoy your time away from school. Here are some do’s and don’ts to help you make the most of your summer vacation:
DO: ‐ Try to read one book a week. If you really like a book, write a report on it
for fun!
‐ Enjoy your time outside with
friends! The more sun you get, the
better, as long as you remember to
use sunscreen.
‐ Learn to ride a bike. Wheels will
take you farther than ever before.
Always wear a helmet!
‐ Take your pets for walks. They
deserve some time outside too!
DON’T ‐ Spend too much time in front of a screen. Try to limit playing video games
or watching TV to no more than a couple hours a week. Memories of your
real experience last forever, but memories of video games will fade.
‐ Forget everything you learned at school. Take some time here and there to
review what you learned so you’re ready for next year!
‐ Forget that safety always comes first! While many fun activities, such as
skateboarding, have some danger involved, you can minimize it with proper
equipment and parental supervision.

Start Your First Lemonade Stand!
Running a lemonade stand is as American as baseball. Every kid should give it a try at least once! You don’t have to make a lot of money; your parents will probably help you out. But there’s no lemonade quite as sweet as your first sale ever! Follow these steps to get started:
1. Find or build a stand. You can’t sell lemonade unless you have a stand to work
behind.
2. Make a sign. You need a big sign for your lemonade stand. Markers aren’t big
enough to read from the road, so try using acrylic paint and a sponge brush.
Do this a day or two beforehand so the sign is dry when you need it.
3. Make more signs. Make some signs you can set up at each end of your street
to notify extra drivers. This will increase the number of people who know
you’re there, and thus the number of people who will buy your lemonade.
4. Make the lemonade ahead of time and put it in a cooler with ice. Making fresh
lemonade on the spot is a fun novelty. However, if you spill anything, you won’t
be able to make more sales until you replace it. Besides that, you’ll be sticky!
Make sure to have a parent with you to help keep track of the money and keep an eye on strangers!
